NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 series has been affected by AI since its launch, with prices continuing to rise, and now even AMD is no exception. So many people think that with prices this high, hardly anyone would buy, and that they’d wait until prices drop a bit before considering. But in reality, it might be the opposite of what you’d expect.
Recently, Germany’s major computer components retailer Mindfactory saw an August sales increase of about 29.5% compared to the previous month, meaning not only were there buyers, but demand was very strong. It is speculated that some consumers’ concerns about graphics cards rising in price again outweighed their hopes for price drops, so they decided to buy before prices got even higher.

German retailers’ graphics card sales grew 29.5% in August! AMD captures over half the market with RX 9070 XT and 9060 XT
According to Wccftech According to reports, TechEpiphany compiled Mindfactory product sales data and found that the German retailer sold 2,810 graphics cards in August 2026, an increase of about 29.5% compared to 2,170 in July. And the best-selling brand was not NVIDIA, as many might expect, but AMD.
AMD was the clearest winner in this latest monthly surge. A total of 1,570 AMD graphics cards were sold in August, accounting for 55.9% of Mindfactory’s sales that month. NVIDIA also did well, with around 1,110 cards, or 39.5%. Intel came in third with 130 cards, or 4.6%.

Compared to July, AMD’s share edged up slightly from 53.7% to 55.9%, and Intel also rose from 2.8% to 4.6%. NVIDIA, somewhat surprisingly, dropped from 43.5% to 39.5%. In other words, while NVIDIA’s actual sales were higher than in July, its growth rate was lower than AMD’s and Intel’s, so its share actually declined instead.
By individual model, the Radeon RX 9070 XT sold best with 870 units, accounting for about 31% of total sales on its own. In second place, the Radeon RX 9060 XT sold 600 units, up about 50% from July, with a share exceeding 21%. These two models alone totaled 1,470 units, accounting for 52.3%—meaning that for every two graphics cards Mindfactory sold in August, one was an RX 9070 XT or RX 9060 XT.

These two cards have one thing in common: their main versions both offer 16GB of VRAM. According to 3DCenter statistics, among graphics cards sold at Mindfactory in August, models with at least 16GB of VRAM accounted for 76%.
NVIDIA’s three best-selling models, in order, are the RTX 5070 Ti, RTX 5060 Ti, and RTX 5080.
In August, 270 units of the RTX 5070 Ti were sold, the RTX 5060 Ti sold 250 units, and the RTX 5080 sold 240 units. All three saw increases compared to July, but RTX 5070 sales actually declined due to the price hike. As for the top-tier RTX 5090, it still moved 80 units in July, but only 10 in August, a monthly drop of 87.5%.

Of course, this data only proves that 640 more units were sold in August than in July, and it can’t directly confirm that players bought early out of fear of another price increase. However, if prices keep rising, it could indeed push those who were already on the fence to place orders sooner, especially given the constant news lately about NVIDIA and AMD planning price hikes, which would only add to the panic.
Worth noting, global data has recently shown a similar trend. According to the latest statistics from Jon Peddie Research, discrete GPU shipments increased by 12.2% quarter-over-quarter in Q2 2026, and despite rising memory prices and component costs, demand has not broadly contracted.
Therefore, AI demand is still very strong, and there’s a good chance it will be a while before graphics card prices return to normal. On top of that, the memory shortage hasn’t been resolved yet, so it’s really hard to say whether price increases will stop. Gamers should be mentally prepared.
