OpenAI launched the ChatGPT Deep Research feature back in February, and it’s quite impressive, delivering more detailed and accurate research reports. However, it was initially only available to ChatGPT Pro users, while other paying members had to wait. After nearly a month, OpenAI has finally officially announced that it’s now fully available to all paid members, meaning Plus, Team, Edu, and Enterprise users can all use it! Of course, there are usage limits.

ChatGPT’s deep research feature is now fully available to paid members.

OpenAI recently announced on the X social platform: “The deep research feature is now rolling out to all ChatGPT Plus, Team, Edu, and Enterprise users.”

Open the ChatGPT website or app, and right below the input box, you’ll see a newly added “Deep Research” feature. It’s supported by multiple models, including GPT-4o, o1, o3-mini, and o3-mini-high.

After opening deep research, the top becomes “What are you researching?” — this part doesn’t appear to be localized yet.

After you enter a topic, ChatGPT may ask you for more specific details about what you want to know before it begins its in-depth research:

The activity content of deep research will be displayed on the right side, including what content is included and which website’s data sources are referenced:

The deep research report quota for ChatGPT Pro users has also been upgraded from 100 to 120 per month, while ChatGPT Plus, Team, Edu, and Enterprise users naturally have far fewer—now 10 per month, according to OpenAI.

The following are the feature highlights and application scenarios of Deep Research:

  • Multi-source Integration: Consolidates information from different websites, documents, and databases simultaneously, avoiding information silos.
  • Automation workflow: automatically completes data search, filtering, and organization, saving substantial manual processing time.
  • Flexible applications: Suitable for market research, academic analysis, industry report writing, and even everyday consumer decisions.
  • Use cases: For example, financial analysts can use Deep Research to quickly consolidate market reports from multiple investment institutions; consumers can also easily compare the performance, price, and reviews of different car models when purchasing an electric vehicle.

In addition to deep research, OpenAI also announced that starting today, free ChatGPT users can experience the advanced voice mode powered by GPT-4o mini every day. Plus users will continue to use 4o without any changes, and can use video and screen sharing features. Pro users get unlimited advanced voice mode, with higher usage limits for video and screen sharing, offering a smoother interactive experience:

As for whether “deep research” will be opened up to free users in the future, I think there’s a chance. After all, many AI services now offer such features for free, like Perplexity, though it might take a while. GPT-5 launches。
