Intel’s 12th-generation processors are on the verge of success, but AMD is not planning to release the Ryzen 7000 series to customers just yet. It will continue to squeeze the last remaining power of the Zern 3 architecture and launch the Ryzen 7 5800X3D, which is known as the last king of Zen 3. However, although this processor is about to go on sale, it is still under an NDA contract at this stage. While everyone is tight-lipped, XanxoGaming, a player from Peru, directly stated that this processor has excellent gaming performance and is not even a match for the i9-12900KF.

Ryzen 7 5800X3D is a model that is very different from previous processors. Players who are familiar with processor news may already know that this processor is the product of AMD using 3D V-Cache based on Ryzen 7 5800X. Therefore, the L3 cache capacity is as high as 96MB, which is much higher than the 32MB of the regular version of Ryzen 7 5800X.

However, in order to take power consumption into consideration, Ryzen 7 5800X3D has a lower clock setting than Ryzen 7 5800X. Moreover, because it is the first product to boldly add a large L3 cache to an 8-core chip, it has to be locked in the form of a hardware lock when it comes to overclocking. Not only is it prohibited from being used by general users for overclocking, but users are also strongly discouraged from increasing the voltage.

AMD 3D V-Cache is powerful, helping the last AM4 flagship processor to achieve excellent results.

The increase in L3 cache makes the performance of Ryzen 7 5800X3D quite impressive. After all, apart from the clock and power consumption, the other specifications are mainly similar to the Ryzen 7 5800X. They both have 8 cores and 16 threads, and the recommended selling price is also US$449. Although the clock is slightly lower by 200MHz, which makes the pure performance score of the CPU somewhat inferior, but buying a processor at home is not just about running scores every day, there will always be other powerful things. Like a game.

In most cases, a very large L3 cache is no different from a normal-sized cache. However, if an application requires a large amount of cache space to assist the processor in computing, it can often work unexpectedly. Peru’s XanxoGaming also had similar ideas, so after previously breaking the news about many actual CPU benchmarks, he recently used games to verify the actual performance of Ryzen 7 5800X3D’s super large L3 cache. As for the control group, it was the leader among Intel Alder Lake 12th generation processors, the Core i9-12900KF.

According to him, he compared a total of more than a dozen games:

“Assassin’s Creed: Origins”

Assassin’s Creed Origins

Borderlands 3 (DX12)

Control (DX12)

“Death Stranding”

《F1 2020》

《Final Fantasy XV》

“Thriller Tunnel: Exile”

Tomb Raider: Shadow of the Tomb Raider (DX12)

“Middle-earth: Shadow of War”

“Expedition” (DX12 – Async ON)Wccftech

“The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt”

Each of these games has its own settings and features, and its performance requirements are also different. I believe these games will be familiar to players who are familiar with AAA masterpieces or hardware testing processes. As for the result, AMD won overwhelmingly. Considering that the platform configurations are all DDR4 memories, it can be said that the Intel Core i9-12900KF does not have all the strength for comparison. But when conditions are equal, it is true that AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D is faster in some games and high-definition settings.

Judging from the test results, AMD’s strategy of making the L3 cache larger cannot be said to be completely useless. The performance of game performance can show that this approach at this stage can indeed allow its own products to directly compete with the latest products of its opponents, but the shortcomings are also obvious. 3D V-Cache directly seals the overclocking capabilities that Ryzen processors are proud of. Not only does it not adjust the voltage, but the clock is even set more conservatively. These are the reasons why Ryzen 7 5800X3D lags behind Core i9-12900KF in some tests. In some cases, Ryzen 7 5800X3D even loses to its brother Ryzen 7 5800X.

Furthermore, there will be no more support behind Ryzen 7 5800X3D. AM4 has been a platform that has been around for many years. This platform has allowed AMD to create many miracles, but it is too old to add more new features and specifications, which further limits AMD’s space to develop new platforms. AMD is now paying more attention to the future AM5 and Ryzen 7000 series. This is what AMD really needs to make, and it is best to create a new platform that can win and lose with Alder Lake.

AM5 is said to abandon the traditional socket and use LGA instead, which means that the processor looks like Intel’s current products and has pins on the motherboard (picture source:VideoCardz)

Ryzen 7 5800X3D is an experiment. It symbolizes the last ditch effort of the old architecture. The experimental addition of 3D V-Cache further enhances the final value of this old platform. It is also hoped that this experiment can bring some new ideas to the next generation of products. Today’s processors are no longer as simple as in the past. It is a new idea to use packaging technology to package things of different architectures. Just like Intel’s unprecedented combination of CPUs into P cores and E cores.

As for Ryzen 7 5800X3D, Intel’s 12th generation processor is doing well and is doing well. AMD does not plan to release the Ryzen 7000 series to meet customers just yet. VideoCardz will continue to squeeze the last remaining power of the Zern 3 architecture and launch the Ryzen 7 5800X3D, which is known as the king of the last Zen 3. However, although this processor is about to go on sale, it is still under an NDA contract at this stage. While everyone is tight-lipped, XanxoGaming, a player from Peru, directly stated that this processor has excellent gaming performance and is not even a match for the i9-12900KF. Will there be more Ryzen 5 5600X3Ds in the future? The author believes that this is not impossible, but apart from pleasing the users who are still clinging to the AM4 platform and refusing to jump ship, it will not be of much benefit to the company’s operations. For players who are interested in continuing to extend the life of their AM4 computers, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D, which is expected to go on sale on April 14, is at least an interesting thing worth taking a second look at.
