Recently, many Pixel Watch users have reported abnormal battery drain on their smartwatches: battery life that originally lasted more than a day or even close to two days suddenly dropped sharply to around half a day, sparking lively discussion in the community. In response to users’ complaints and concerns, Google officially acknowledged the issue last week and said it was looking for a solution. Now the company has fulfilled its promise and begun rolling out a fix update to affected Pixel Watch devices, hoping to restore normal battery performance as soon as possible.

Google releases Pixel Watch battery repair app, available for download on the Play Store.
In a statement provided to the media, Google said that a fix for the abnormal battery drain experienced by some Pixel Watch users has begun rolling out in stages and is expected to be fully rolled out within the next few days. Affected users do not need to wait for a new Wear OS system version; they only need to update the relevant app on their watch to get the fix.
Users are advised to press the Pixel Watch crown, open the Play Store, go to the “Manage apps” page, and choose to update all apps that can be updated. After completing the updates, Google also recommends restarting the device to ensure the fix takes effect properly.

It is worth noting that this fix was not pushed through a Wear OS system update, but was delivered as an app update. This also means that the root cause of the abnormal battery drain likely came from a preloaded system app or background service, rather than a core issue with the operating system itself. Although Google has not yet explained which app had the vulnerability or disclosed technical details, judging from the way the fix was delivered, the source of the problem should already have been identified.

Because the fix update is being rolled out gradually, some users may not see the update notification immediately. If you open the Play Store and don’t find any pending updates, it doesn’t mean the device is fine—it may simply be that the update hasn’t been pushed to that device yet. Google recommends that users wait patiently and check again over the next few days for a new app version to install.

According to user reports, the affected range is not limited to a single model: from the Pixel Watch 2 to the latest Pixel Watch 5, cases have been reported for almost all Pixel Watch series products that still receive official support. Some devices could originally last nearly two days on a single charge, but after the issue appeared, battery life plummeted to only 12 to 16 hours, causing considerable inconvenience to users who rely on wearing the watch all day to track health data, receive notifications, and record workouts.

Google emphasized that this abnormal battery drain issue affects only a small number of users, rather than all Pixel Watches experiencing the same situation. However, for the users actually affected, the gap in experience is quite noticeable. Some users said their Pixel Watch 4 used to last about a day and a half on a full charge, but recently the battery has been draining abnormally fast, and even without any change in usage habits, it often cannot last 12 hours.

Before Google officially acknowledged the issue, many users suspected it was caused by battery aging or declining battery health. However, such a dramatic decline in battery life over a short period is not normal, so when the company confirmed the existence of a system bug, many users were relieved. This not only meant that the hardware itself was not damaged, but also that the problem had a chance to be completely resolved through a software update.

As the fixes are gradually rolled out, there is also hope that the Pixel Watch series will soon return to its original battery life performance. If the update works as intended, most affected users should regain more than a day of battery life, returning the Pixel Watch to its original stable and reliable experience. For users who have recently been troubled by battery drain issues, this update is undoubtedly welcome news worth looking forward to.
