Since its controversial launch in 2020, CDPR-developed Cyberpunk 2077 has undergone a remarkable transformation, and after the major 2.0 update and the official release of the Phantom Liberty expansion, this open-world sci-fi RPG has become a highly acclaimed game. At the same time, Cyberpunk 2077 has gradually developed a massive modding community that continues to expand the game’s potential, and now a brand-new mod has introduced a true multiplayer experience to the game.
The mod team NightCoop has recently unveiled development plans for a mod titled “CO-OP Mod: the Whole Story Together,” emphasizing that players will be able to play through the entire story of Cyberpunk 2077 in full multiplayer co-op, with support for up to 8 players. An exact release date for the mod has not yet been determined, but the team has already begun closed testing in the game’s prologue and first act.
Although the footage released so far only shows 2-player co-op, this mod will eventually support up to 8 players playing together, letting players share an open world, join combat together, or vote together on dialogue options. Not only that, the mod also supports PvP battles, allowing 8 players to compete against each other and stage a battle royale directly in Night City.
What’s a bit unfortunate is that during co-op, all players play as Cyberpunk 2077’s protagonist “V” rather than other characters such as “Johnny Silverhand” or “Jackie.” However, participating players can still customize their own characters and use different weapons, skills, and build combinations, greatly increasing character diversity.
On the other hand, to maintain the game’s challenge and prevent every fight from turning into an “overwhelming onslaught,” NightCoop also provides options for the mod to increase the difficulty of Cyberpunk 2077 enemies. But beyond simply raising health, they will also adjust enemy AI, such as making certain enemies more adept at using grenades and blocking attacks.
These freely and diversely selectable features, working together, will surely make “CO-OP Mod: the Whole Story Together” a co-op mod suitable for all kinds of Cyberpunk 2077 players. As for the exact launch time, further news is still pending.
