Since its release in September this year, Resident Evil: Outbreak Night, directed by Zach Cregger, has achieved remarkably strong results in both reviews and box office, becoming not only the highest-rated video game adaptation of all time but also successfully beating every Resident Evil film to date at the box office. And with the help of modders, the film is about to officially make its way back into the video game realm.

Recently, game developer Julian Zamora said on his personal social media platforms that he is currently creating a “fan game” for Resident Evil: Outbreak and showcased gameplay footage inspired by the farm sequence that opens the movie. What surprised fans even more was that the developer chose the “fixed camera angles” and “tank controls” style from when the Resident Evil video game series first appeared on the PlayStation console.

In the first half of the film Resident Evil: Outbreak Night, Austin Abrams’s unlucky courier character “Brian” goes to a farm to try to find a landline phone or some other way to contact the outside world. However, he is attacked by a zombie dog at this point and can only flee in panic to a nearby barn.
The gameplay footage Julian Zamora released recreates this sequence using the classic fixed camera angles of the PS1, with players having to control Brian as he runs around the snowy farm to avoid highly aggressive zombie dogs. Unfortunately, this also seems to be the only piece of gameplay footage the creator can currently make public.

“Unfortunately, I’m not quite sure yet how to create the kind of pre-rendered flat scenes from the PS1 era, so yes, right now it looks more like the style of Resident Evil: Code Veronica, and I really like that feel,” he explained.
According to information Julian Zamora has made public, this Resident Evil: Outbreak Night Game Edition is currently being developed using the Godot engine, and he has promised to continue sharing more development details in the future.
