Right after Minecraft’s latest update officially went live recently, players have begun to wonder what surprises this classic sandbox game will bring next. According to the latest news from developer Mojang Studios, the next showcase event, Minecraft Live, will begin at 1 a.m. Taiwan time on September 27. Although officials have not yet revealed many details, players seem to have picked up some clues from recent events—and it may even bring a major update after a full 15-year wait.
Starting September 17, the official team held a Minecraft Dungeons 2 promotional event called “Blue Creeper Battle” at the Tokyo Game Show venue, as well as on YouTube and in Minecraft Bedrock Edition. At the end of the event, the official team partnered with the YouTube channel TubboLIVE for a livestream and finally revealed to players the date of this year’s Minecraft Live.
After players successfully defeated that troublesome “Blue Creeper” in this event, Mojang Studios thanked players for participating through a short story cinematic and revealed that the hostile NPC faction, the “Illagers”, had found a portal to the “Sift”.
Although this seems to be an official hint at the upcoming Minecraft Dungeons 2—after all, it has already been confirmed that this will be one of the adventure settings for the sequel—some players speculate that this all-new area could also be added to the main Minecraft game. If that claim is true, it would be the first all-new otherworldly dimension in the game in exactly 15 years, since The End in 2011.
As for exactly what Mojang has prepared, players will find out at the livestream event at 1 a.m. on September 27, which can be watched on the Minecraft Twitch channel, YouTube, or directly on the official Minecraft Live website.
