On the evening of August 12, Insta360 officially launched its new flagship 8K panoramic camera, the X6, positioning it as “the biggest leap in the X series ever.” This year marks the tenth anniversary of Insta360’s focus on panoramic cameras, and the X6 is the culmination of a decade of technical accumulation. Insta360 currently holds a 71% share of the global panoramic camera market. The X6’s core appeal is “one device for all your shooting needs,” combining a panoramic camera, a subject-tracking gimbal camera, and a single-lens action camera into a single pocket-sized device. Insta360 founder Liu Jingkang said: “The X6 is the camera we’ve always wanted to build. It captures everything around you, in any lighting condition, and delivers an edited video before you even take out your phone.”

Imaging Hardware: Custom Sony Sensors and a Triple-Core AI Chip
The X6 features dual custom Sony 1/1.1-inch square sensors, delivering an equivalent 1-inch 360-degree panoramic image. The sensor area is 33% larger than the previous X5, with roughly four times the light intake per frame, an F2.0 aperture, and an equivalent focal length of 7.78mm.

On the processor side, the X6 uses a triple-core AI chip system: one 8-core 3.3GHz 4nm flagship processor paired with two dedicated imaging chips, delivering 500% more overall compute than the X5, 106% faster clock speeds, and 35% lower power consumption. This system translates directly into sharper details, purer colors, and stable noise reduction in dark scenes.

A new low-light mode paired with two ambient light sensors effectively eliminates flicker and enhances night detail. AdaptiveTone 2.0 meters each lens independently, capturing two exposures per frame for a wider dynamic range. The X6 is also the first panoramic camera with native in-camera Dolby Vision, combined with 10-bit color depth and over 1.07 billion recordable colors — professional-grade color straight out of camera, no post-processing required.
Three Cameras in One: Panoramic, Tracking, and Action
The X6’s biggest highlight is the freedom to switch between three shooting modes:
Panorama Mode: Capture everything around you in native 8K at 50fps, then extract the best angle from any direction afterward. Whether you frame the shot once or a dozen times, the full scene is always there.
Subject Tracking Mode: InstaFrame 2.0 locks onto and tracks people, pets, and objects in real time, outputting flat 4K video directly with no extra editing. Combined with the joystick control on the new foldable selfie stick remote kit, you get gimbal-level shots. Attach the first-person POV Head Tracker module and the camera shoots automatically, following your line of sight.
Single-Lens Action Camera Mode: In single-lens mode, shoot up to 5K 60fps video, an ultra-wide 170-degree field of view (at 5K 30fps), or 4K 120fps slow-motion playback.
From the body to the accessories, the X6 consolidates what used to take three devices into a single solution.

AI Auto-Editing: The PanoMind Model
The X6 comes with Insta360’s self-developed PanoMind AI model — the first native 360-degree AI model that understands complete spherical scenes, trained on over 10,000 hours of footage spanning more than 30 scene types. Simply plug the X6 into power to charge, and the AI director auto-editing engine builds highlight videos from the footage on the camera, then sends the finished results to the Insta360 App. All analysis runs entirely on the camera — nothing is uploaded to the cloud — and it can be turned off at any time.

In addition, Auto Edit 2.0 turns one or multiple clips into a complete video with a single tap — framing, camera movement, cuts, music, and transitions all handled in one go. With the “Moment Pro” feature in the Insta360+ cloud service (built in partnership with Google Gemini), you can replace manual editing with descriptions by setting the subject, mood, style, and time range.
3D Spatial Capture: Gaussian Splatting Model
The X6 supports 360-degree spatial capture. Record an object or scene in panorama, import the footage into the Insta360 App, and it generates a 3D Gaussian Splatting model, reconstructing the scene as a freely explorable 3D space (perfect for real estate professionals).
You can return to the scene at any time, moving around freely and looking in every direction. This feature is especially suited to spaces you want to preserve in full: a studio before renovation, a home before moving out, or a location scout before a shoot. Other X6 features let you choose your angle after the fact — spatial capture preserves the entire space.
Hardware Specs and Battery Life
Key hardware specs of the X6:
- Screen: 2.32-inch OLED, 1,200 nits peak brightness, always-on display and full-screen touch
- Battery: 2,600mAh, 140 minutes of 8K 30fps panoramic recording (51% more than the X5)
- Charging: 80% in 24 minutes, 100% in 35 minutes (requires 30W PPS fast charging)
- Water Resistance: 20m bare (IP68), up to 60m with the dive case
- Storage: Built-in 64GB (47GB usable), microSD UHS-I V30 or above supported
- Weight: 196g
- Connectivity: Wi-Fi 6.0 (100MB/s), USB 3.0 (450MB/s), Bluetooth 5.3
- Operating Temperature: -20°C to 40°C
For cooling, the X6 uses Insta360’s patented Star-Ridge heat dissipation system, 10% more efficient than competitors, paired with an insulating grip for stable long 8K recording sessions. The removable lens cover 2.0 is five times more scratch-resistant, and replacement costs 60% less than the previous generation.
The audio system features a 360-degree omnidirectional windproof four-microphone array, plus a hidden engine microphone designed for motorcycle riders that filters wind noise and captures engine sound separately. You can also connect two Insta360 Mic Air or Mic Pro wireless microphones simultaneously.
Accessory Ecosystem
The X6 works with more than 100 accessories, all connected through the same magnetic quick-release system and fully compatible with X5, X4 Air, and Ace series accessories. Highlight accessories include: the X6 Charging Selfie Stick, which adds 180 extra minutes of battery life; a pocket foldable selfie stick with gimbal-level joystick control; Bullet Time Selfie Stick 2.0; and a rapid charging case supporting dual batteries and dual SD card slots. The motorcycle kit features a holographic speedometer overlay, auto loop-recording dashcam mode, and automatic license plate blurring. The new fully invisible professional dive case takes the X6 down to 60m underwater without blocking the seam line.
