It has been several months since the official launch of “Castle of Evil: Requiem”, and the new free DLC “Leon Danger” was officially launched earlier today, bringing a new challenging gameplay similar to the mercenary mode to the game. While players continue to wait for the subsequent paid story DLC, data miners have recently discovered some traces of deleted content from the game’s backend, such as merchant characters, side tasks, and investigation systems.

According to a post and a series of screenshots shared by the well-known “Castle of Evil” leaker AestheticGamer1, a person named umesooooo Players have discovered some unused content from the backend files of Castle Evil: Requiem and dug up some interesting findings, believing that these files may be related to some mechanics that were cut during development.

The first screenshot showed the player customizing the “Requiem” revolver accessories, but sharp-eyed players immediately noticed a mysterious figure wearing a hood standing in the distance. Although it is difficult to determine the identity of this character, players believe that he is likely to be the “Item Merchant” who was originally going to appear in “Castle of Evil: Requiem”, similar to the one in “Castle of Evil 4”, but in the final version, this function was replaced by a supply box.
On the other hand, the tipster hinted that “Castle of Evil: Requiem” would originally have included a “side mission” system, which was supposedly used to obtain some props that could be exchanged for equipment with the merchant. This setting is also very similar to “Castle of Evil 4”, but unfortunately, this mechanism seems to have been deleted along with the removal of the merchant.

As for weapons, this excavation also discovered some kind of special ammunition “poison bullets” that could have been used in the Requiem revolver, but this ultimately did not appear in the official version of the game. Even the blood collection system used for the new character “Grace” in the official version seemed to be originally a prop used by Leon.
In addition, subsequent data mining screenshots also show that “Evil Castle: Requiem” may have originally included some kind of investigation-focused gameplay mechanism, allowing Leon to explore some kind of crime scene to solve some mysteries in the story. However, in the official version of the game, neither Leon nor Grace, who is an FBI agent, performed similar operations.

Even without these game mechanics, the final content of “Castle of Evil: Requiem” still satisfied the media and fans. Not only has the game become one of the best-reviewed games of 2026 so far, it has also become the fastest-selling entry in the series’ history.
In a recent interview with the “Eurogamer” website, game director Koji Nakanishi also talked about the new design they introduced for the “zombie” in “Castle of Evil: Requiem”.

Different from wandering around in the past, the “Requiem” team decided to let the zombies in the game retain some of their behaviors in life. For example, the cleaning staff in the nursing home will still try to clean up the messy environment after being zombified, and the managers will stagger and close the corridors, and will still attack even when they see Leon or Grace.
According to the production director, the scary thing about zombies is the uncanny valley feeling of “looking human but not human”. The introduction of this new design can not only strengthen this feeling, but also bring innovation to the behavior of zombies, thereby preventing players from feeling numb to such enemies. He said that this state of “appearing to be able to communicate but unable to respond” is the core of the horror of “Requiem”.
