The long-awaited GPT-5 model, earlier OpenAI Finally officially released, and surprisingly, it turns out it’s not just… ChatGPT Both paid and free users will have access to the latest and most powerful GPT-5, and just as previously announced, GPT-5 will be the only model option going forward, meaning you no longer have to worry about which model to choose.

ChatGPT’s most powerful all-around GPT-5 model is here! No more worrying about which model to pick — available to both paid and free users.
In an earlier livestream event, OpenAI officially unveiled the GPT-5 model, currently its most powerful, smartest, fastest, and most reliable reasoning model. In ChatGPT, it will replace the previously complex model selection menu with just a single “GPT-5” option—users no longer need to choose a model based on their use case. GPT-5 will automatically engage in deep reasoning as needed, delivering reasoning and accuracy that clearly surpass the previous generation.

Efficacy, hallucination, and error rate test data
GPT-5 set new highs in multiple evaluations including SWE-Bench, ADER Polyglot, MMMU, AEME 2025, with particularly outstanding performance in areas such as multilingual, mathematical reasoning, and healthcare.

In the AEME 2025 test, GPT-5 pro (Python) also achieved 100% accuracy:

GPT-5 also specifically improves on “factual accuracy” and “reliability,” reducing hallucinations and incorrect answers. To this end, OpenAI has also developed a brand-new fact-verification evaluation, and the results show that GPT-5 is the most reliable and truthful model to date.
From the figure below, in factual tests, GPT-5’s reasoning mode has a significantly lower misinformation generation rate than o3, only 1/5 to 1/6. In difficult scenarios, the misinformation rate is even nearly 10 times lower than GPT-4o. On the right, in real ChatGPT usage, it’s the same: GPT-5’s error rate drops to less than one-quarter of GPT-4o’s, and the reasoning mode is down to just 4.8%.

Voice mode is more user-friendly, and free users get longer access time.
GPT-5’s voice mode also has some improvements, such as being usable in custom GPTs. Plus users can fully customize the voice experience according to their needs, and GPT will respond very accurately based on your instructions. Free users also get more time, up to about an hour, while subscribers have almost unlimited use.
During the livestream, OpenAI also demonstrated a simple use case. They asked the voice to respond to what was said with a single word, combined with a new learning mode for language learning. The latter is quite nice. For example, when learning a language, you can ask the voice to speak the foreign language more slowly, so you can know how each word in the sentence is pronounced.

ChatGPT can now customize its appearance.
ChatGPT now also supports custom colors for the conversation interface, letting every user create their own personalized AI interface—but this feature is limited to subscribers. There’s also a “Personality Style” setting that lets you configure ChatGPT’s response style, such as more supportive, professional and concise, or even a bit sarcastic. Additionally, it finally integrates with Gmail and Google Calendar. Starting next week, Pro users will get access first, followed by Plus, team, and enterprise users:

APIs provide developers with more model options
For API and developers, in addition to GPT-5, there are also GPT-5-mini and GPT-5-nano. Not only have prices been reduced, but speed has also improved, and you can customize Reasoning Effort and Verbosity, with support for 400,000-character long context, and custom tool calling/formatting.
When will GPT-5 be officially launched?
After the GPT-5 live launch event, OpenAI officially opened it up to all users, both free and paid tiers. That said, it’s rolling out gradually. From my testing, the app tends to get access earlier, while the web version is slower. For instance, my Mac app already has GPT-5, but the web version hasn’t shown it yet.
Although the free version can also use GPT-5, there are usage limits. Once exceeded, it will switch to GPT-5-mini.
