Meta is continuing to expand its video creation ecosystem. Since Instagram launched the video editing tool Edits, more than 50 million creators worldwide have incorporated it into their content production workflows in just over a year. Now, Meta has announced that the first desktop version of Edits is officially available on macOS, meaning this creation tool that was originally mobile-first is formally entering the desktop video production space and further targeting the needs of professional and semi-professional creators.

Meta brings Edits to desktop! The macOS version officially launches, making a strong push into the advanced video and audio creation market.

Meta says Edits for Mac is available for download starting today and is optimized for larger, more complex video projects. With more expansive screen space and the precise control of a mouse and keyboard, creators can complete video editing, effects adjustments, and content publishing more efficiently. As with the mobile version, the desktop version will maintain a weekly update cadence, continuously introducing new features and experience improvements.

As short-form video gradually becomes a mainstream content format, creators’ production workflows are also becoming increasingly complex. Meta points out that many users report that when working with multiple clips, precisely aligning edits to music beats, or repeatedly fine-tuning editing details, phone screen size and touch controls have increasingly become limitations. In particular, when a project involves more than ten video clips, multiple audio tracks, and dense effects, the cramped timeline often affects editing efficiency. Therefore, Meta has decided to expand Edits to desktop platforms, hoping to enable creators to complete challenging creative work in a more comfortable and more professional environment, further improving content quality and production efficiency.

In terms of features, Edits for Mac carries forward the mobile version’s emphasis on “one-stop creation.” Creators can directly use Instagram’s licensed royalty-free music library and access hundreds of sound effects and visual effects assets, reducing the cost of searching for resources across platforms. In addition, the desktop version includes built-in multilingual automatic captions with no usage limit, helping improve video accessibility and the efficiency of producing internationalized content.

To lower the learning curve, Meta has also bridged creative assets between mobile and desktop. Audio settings, text styles, and related materials previously created on mobile can now be carried over directly to desktop. Users can also customize keyboard shortcuts according to personal preference—even mimic the operation logic of other mainstream editing software—so existing workflows can transition seamlessly.

To meet the needs of advanced creators, Meta is also bringing multiple professional editing features to the desktop version. Edits for Mac supports multi-track timeline editing, keyframe animation, and audio waveform display, helping creators more precisely control the rhythm of visuals and sound. Common tasks such as video splitting, cropping, trimming, and transition design also become more intuitive thanks to the larger interface.

In video post-production, the platform offers professional color grading tools such as Color Wheel, Curves, and Log conversion, enabling creators to make more refined adjustments to video color, exposure, and contrast. Users can also import their own LUT files and font resources to strengthen brand recognition and visual style consistency. Notably, Meta has also begun integrating AI workflows. If creators use AI Agents or automation tools during production, they can also enable Model Context Protocol (MCP) through settings to enhance collaboration with third-party AI systems.

In addition to upgraded creation features, Meta is also trying to simplify the last mile of video content. In the past, many creators were used to editing on a computer and then transferring the video to their phone for publishing. However, with the Edits desktop version, users can publish their work directly to Instagram while using native features such as tagging accounts, adding location information, and experimental content publishing, reducing cross-device workflows. In terms of output specifications, Edits supports multiple video aspect ratios, including landscape and portrait, and can export videos at up to 4K resolution without adding a watermark. Whether uploading to Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, or further using the content in other commercial and personal projects, it maintains a high degree of flexibility.

Meta says the desktop launch is only the first step in Edits’ roadmap. Based on feedback collected during testing, many creators want to seamlessly continue the same project between phone and computer, and this cross-device synchronized editing feature is now in development. As competition in the short-video market continues to heat up, Meta clearly hopes to use Edits to build a more complete creative toolchain, covering everything from asset creation and post-production editing to content publishing. The launch of the Mac desktop version not only meets the needs of professional creative workflows, but also moves Edits from a simple mobile video tool toward a full-fledged video creation platform.
