Google may be developing a child-friendly version of Gemini.
All of Gemini’s features are subject to age restrictions, which vary by country and regional requirements. In Taiwan, users must be at least 13 years old to use it, and those under the legal age need parental or guardian consent. However, Google appears eager to expand its reach, and a newly discovered children’s version of Gemini mode may be in the works.
According to foreign media Android Authority’s discoveryThe code included in the Android version of the Google app, version 16.12.39, indicates that Google is indeed developing a Gemini experience for child users, which can help young users create stories, ask questions, get homework help, and more. The code strings basically highlight the text users see when switching from Google Assistant to the Gemini screen.
This mode may come with additional protections to prevent young users from generating or seeing age-inappropriate information, so the process may involve strict content filtering and review. While it’s still unclear, the new experience seems to trigger automatically when Gemini is activated through a Google account that is either managed via Family Link or determined to belong to a child.
Considering that Google plans to completely phase out Google Assistant by the end of this year, and newly unearthed strings highlight the transition from Google Assistant to the Gemini display, this new child-friendly mode or experience will likely launch before Google ultimately retires Google Assistant for good.
