Google launches ‘Docs Live’ feature, letting you create entire documents just by speaking to Gemini

Earlier at I/O 2026, Google introduced a more convenient way to create documents: “Docs Live.” You just need to speak your requirements into your phone or computer, and Gemini will take what you’ve mentioned and organize it into a well-structured Google Docs file. Even better, you can change your mind or switch to a different topic midway through, and Gemini will still organize everything into a complete document with titles, paragraphs, and full content.

Beyond Files, Gmail and Keep will also be getting similar Live chat features.

Docs Live lets you speak to Gemini to generate documents and reformat them directly. This summer, it will roll out to AI Pro and Ultra subscribers.

Google mentioned at the event that Docs Live is a feature where “users simply speak out whatever’s on their minds, and Gemini handles the rest of the organization.” The biggest difference from regular voice input is that it doesn’t produce a word-for-word transcript—it understands what you’re trying to say and automatically adds titles, paragraphs, and logical flow.

Built on top of Gemini Live, Docs Live not only generates documents through voice but also lets you edit them by speaking. In the live demo video, telling the AI “move this paragraph to the top,” “bold these words,” and “make this paragraph italic” resulted in Docs instantly adjusting the layout — all without touching the mouse or keyboard. This would be a significant improvement for the writing experience on mobile devices.

Not just Docs — Google has also announced the same “Live” concept is coming to Gmail and Google Keep.

Gmail Live takes the “question and answer” approach, letting you ask your inbox questions in natural language. For example, when you’re heading to the airport, you can just ask “What’s my gate number?” and the AI will search through your emails to find the answer—no need to manually search for keywords. It’s similar to Ask Gemini, but it runs directly integrated into Gmail. You can find the feature icon in the search bar and start talking right away.

Keep Live, on the other hand, lets you dictate reminders to the system, and Keep automatically organizes them — for example, if you say something as jumbled as “Wednesday I need to submit a report, pick up the kids at five, and remember to restock in the evening,” Keep will split it into separate reminder items.

These three features will roll out to AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers this summer, with Google Workspace business users also expected to get access through a preview. There’s no mention of a free tier, so it’s essentially off the table for the near future—which aligns with Google’s past strategy of locking voice-based features (like early versions of Gemini Live) behind paid subscriptions.
