When it comes to smart glasses, which brand comes to mind in Taiwan? I believe most people would immediately think of the domestically made HTC VIVE Eagle, right? It’s been almost exactly a year since this product launched, and it’s still one of the 3C products I use every day. Although other similar products have been sold in Taiwan over the past year, HTC has still done a great job in terms of applications and user experience. When it first went on sale, Ada mentioned features HTC would add in the future, such as meeting recording, AI translation, livestreaming, and more—and those have finally all been added in recent updates. Coinciding with the launch of the new HTC VIVE Eagle round-frame model, this is a good opportunity to give everyone a proper introduction.
HTC VIVE Eagle Round Frame Model Quick Look
This time it’s mainly just a minor restyling, not much different from before, so I’ll briefly go over it. The outer box is still the same eco-friendly cylindrical design:

VIVE Eagle Major Software Update! New Translation Mode and 3K Video Recording Now Available
Last year when Ada was filming the VIVE Eagle unboxing, it was already teased that HTC would add features like meeting recording, transcription, live streaming, and real-time translation. The first two had already been implemented earlier, and now, with the launch of the VIVE Eagle round-frame edition, the long-promised live streaming and real-time translation features have finally gone live as well. Plus, video recording quality has been upgraded from 2K to 3K! It shows that the HTC team has really been putting effort into improving the software.
First, regarding operation: the VIVE Eagle now supports nodding to answer calls and shaking your head to reject them. From now on, you can handle incoming calls without taking out your phone or touching the glasses, making it just as easy to answer or decline calls while commuting by bike, shopping, or when your hands are busy—the interaction feels more intuitive and natural. It also adds an auto power-off function, so you don’t have to worry about forgetting to turn it off even if you haven’t been wearing the glasses for a long time.
Dual-mode AI real-time translation; VIVE AI Notes supports 96 languages.
The main new features of this VIVE Eagle are AI real-time translation and VIVE AI Notes. The AI real-time translation function supports “Listening Mode” and “Conversation Mode.” When listening to foreign-language content, it can translate in real time and play it through the glasses; for face-to-face communication, Conversation Mode can assist with two-way exchanges, lowering the barrier to cross-language communication.
Ada also tested the “listening mode” and found it very suitable for scenarios like foreign language speeches and presentations, with impressive translation quality:
Real-time translation works through conversation. Using Chinese with a foreign language as an example: after the other person speaks in a foreign language, the glasses will play the real-time Chinese translation, and the phone app will also display the text simultaneously. When the user speaks Chinese, what you said will be displayed and translated on the phone, making it convenient for both parties to communicate. However, the real-time translation feature requires credits and a subscription to use, but purchasing VIVE Eagle already includes a 24-month subscription, and for the first three months, it also gives 300 points each month (after three months, it gives 100 points per month).You can use VIVE AI Notes and real-time translation, which is actually enough for everyday use. If your usage is heavier, the add-on cost isn’t high either—1,200 points cost only NT$990, and translating a launch event uses at most a few dozen points.
The existing VIVE AI Notes (voice recording) has also been expanded to support 96 languages, integrating recording, transcripts, speaker identification, and AI summaries, allowing users to use it in meetings, learning, and daily note-taking. It can be launched via the app or by saying “Hey VIVE, record my voice” to VIVE Eagle.
Once the recording is complete, the transcript can be generated (about one minute per point), and speakers will also be differentiated based on their voice source.

Of course, the highlight this time is the real-time translation, transcription, and summarization features that support up to 96 languages, which are quite useful whether for traveling abroad or for everyday office work and classes.
Additionally, the video resolution has been upgraded from the original 2K to 3K, and the electronic image stabilization has been enhanced. I also did some real-life recording comparisons—take a look at the difference in image quality:
Of course, for a face-worn recording device like the VIVE Eagle, the most creative way to use it is to capture all kinds of sports or life experience videos. I’ve shot quite a few myself—some aren’t suitable for public sharing—but having this kind of device is just convenient for when you need to record something quickly without having to pull out your phone.
The last one is a live streaming feature that most people probably won’t use, but content creators will need. It currently supports YouTube and Twitch live streaming, and hopefully will add Facebook and IG live streaming features in the future.

This latest HTC VIVE Eagle update not only introduces round-frame styles that better suit female users and more color options, but also brings the incredibly useful AI Notes multilingual transcription and real-time translation feature. Along with some small updates that improve the day-to-day experience, even a longtime user like me can feel the team’s dedication to refining the user experience. HTC VIVE Eagle has also expanded beyond Taiwan, with overseas markets already established in Hong Kong, Japan, and Singapore. Now it’s officially entering the U.S. (New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle), Europe (UK, France, Germany), and Australia. The first European wave is mainly focused on Germany, the UK, and France, which are launching soon. I’m really looking forward to seeing how it performs overseas.
