Hideo Kojima’s classic “Metal Gear” series can be said to be one of the founders of the entire “stealth game” genre, and also established the producer’s reputation in the game industry. Although the series has basically ended with Hideo Kojima and Konami parting ways, the publisher has recently launched a collection of multiple works, giving players the opportunity to relive this classic series on PC and current-generation console platforms.

In “Metal Gear: Master Collection 1” released in October 2023, players will be able to play 7 classic works from the “Metal Gear” series. In addition to the trilogy of the main series, this collection also includes earlier classics such as “Metal Gear”.

When these classic works returned to the modern PC platform, players began to design various mods for the game. According to the latest post of Afevis Solmunko, a well-known mod developer in the Metal Gear Solid series community, a new mod may completely change the way players play Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty.

oh… accidentally found third person view in MGS2MC, guess that’ll go into MGSHDFix too.

it locks the camera to overhead view when in super-tight corridors so you don’t clip through walls, but otherwise… yeah, it been there for 15 years. will do some small fixes to it lol pic.twitter.com/vnk3GpQU5d

As long as this new module is installed, players can experience “Metal Gear Solid 2” from a third-person perspective, giving players the opportunity to re-experience this classic espionage game from an unprecedented perspective, and it also brings more free and practical choices in gameplay. To the surprise of many players, this module technically does not “add” this feature to the game, but “unlocks” it, because the relevant files have actually been hidden in the background files of the 2011 HD port of “Metal Gear Solid 2”, but players have never discovered it.

It definitely is, everything related to it is labeled BP/Bluepoint

According to Solmunko’s discovery, the code of the relevant files is marked “BP/Bluepoint”. It is likely that these contents were added by the Bluepoint Games team when the “Metal Gear Solid HD Collection” was launched in 2011, but were not used in the end for some reasons, rather than existing in “Metal Gear Solid 2” originally designed by Hideo Kojima’s team.
