Foreign information security agencies remind you to delete it immediately! 4 Android Apps Are Joker Malware That Will Steal Your Money

Recently, foreign security agency Pradeo issued a security alert report, which stated that they had detected a new Joker malware on Google Play, affecting more than 100,000 users, so there are still many people downloading it.

Joker is a kind of fleeceware money-grabbing software. Its main activity is to secretly subscribe to paid services that users do not need, or send text messages, make expensive phone calls, etc. This malicious code is difficult to detect. In the past three years, thousands of applications have been found to contain Joker malware.

The 4 Apps discovered this time are:

  • “SMart SMS Messages” version 1.3.2, more than 50,000 installations, SMS application App
  • “Blood Pressure Monitor” version 1.3.238, more than 10,000 installations, blood pressure detection App
  • “Voice Languages Translator” version 2.0, more than 10,000 installations, voice translation app
  • “Quick Text SMS” version 2.0, more than 10,000 installations, SMS application App

Among these, Voice Languages Translator is more likely to be accidentally downloaded.

These Apps have been removed by Google Play. If you are not sure whether you have downloaded them, you can go to the application in settings and search for them. Enter keywords to see if they appear. If so, please remove them immediately. It is also recommended to check to see if there has been a sudden increase in your bill recently. For those who want to feel more at ease, you can use some free anti-virus apps after removal, such as:Mobile Security and Antivirus (Trend Micro)、Avast antivirus software、Avira Security Antivirus Wait, even restore the phone to factory settings, which means deleting all data. Remember to back up the phone before doing so.

Pradeo also explained how these apps work. In order to bypass authentication protocols when making in-app purchases, SMart SMS Messages and Blood Pressure Monitor intercept one-time passwords. The former is for reading text messages and silently taking screenshots, and the latter is for intercepting the content of notifications. Affected users will only notice the charge when they receive their phone bill, likely weeks after the theft begins.
