Compared to OpenAI’s advanced voice mode, Google’s Gemini Live is now free for everyone.It’s quite generous, which is why quite a few people are playing with it. The good news is that recently someone discovered in the code that Google might integrate Gemini Live into Chrome, meaning that in the future, you can just open the browser to use it.

It seems possible that the Chrome desktop version may introduce Gemini Live voice mode.
According to foreign media outlet Android Police, Chrome researcher Lopeva64 discovered mid-last month that Google changed the icon of a new button in the tab strip. At the time, he said Gerrit indicated the button appears to open a user interface (possibly a side panel) showing contextual information about the current page, or a similar feature.
Just recently, he delved deep into Chromium Gerrit and, based on the GLIC codename, was 99% certain this feature is Gemini Live for Chrome.

Leopeva also added that GLIC will need to obtain the user’s microphone and location permissions, and will have an option to “View and manage your activity”. In addition to Windows, GLIC will also be available on Chrome for Linux and Mac.
Of course, this is a new feature discovered from early code, so it’s still uncertain whether Chrome will actually add Gemini Live or present it in a different way. Just keep that in mind for now. If this direction does come to fruition, more news will likely surface before long.
