Google has launched its latest generative AI experiment, “Whisk,” in the US, which allows you to use images as prompts instead of having to precisely describe what you want in lengthy text as before. Users can simply drag and drop images into the interface to get started. What’s distinctive is that the mashups it creates aren’t just a simple combination of the images—they present your input images in a more flexible, artistic way.

Google launches new AI experiment “Whisk” that can remix and generate images from your input.

Whisk lets users input a subject image, scene image, and style image, then remixes them to create unique, one-of-a-kind works. In the background, the Gemini model automatically writes detailed captions for your images, then feeds those descriptions into Google’s latest image generation model, Imagen 3. The process isn’t about precise replication—it revolves around the essence of the subject, allowing you to easily recombine your desired subject, scene, and style in new ways. Google offers several examples for reference, with each generated image created by blending three pictures together.

Since Whisk only extracts a few key features from your image, the generated image may differ from what you originally expected. For example, the generated object may have a different height, weight, hairstyle, or skin color than intended. These details can be very important for some people’s projects, so Google allows users to view and edit the underlying prompts in Whisk at any time. In addition to the three input images, you can also add text to describe deeper details and requirements more precisely. If you don’t have an image on hand, you can click the dice and let Google fill it in automatically.

According to early testing by Google Labs with artists and creative professionals, people have consistently described Whisk as a new type of creative tool rather than a traditional image editor. Google created Whisk with the goal of enabling fast visual exploration, not pixel-perfect editing. It allows users to explore ideas in novel and creative ways, trying out dozens of options and downloading the ones they like.

If you are in the United States, starting today you canlabs.google/whiskTrying this new AI generation tool will definitely bring you many unprecedented new experiences.
