The Intel Core 12900HX and i7-12800HX, the most powerful notebook processor series released just a few days ago, were first tested by Chinese users earlier. Compared with the i7-12700H of the Alder Lake-H series, the single-core aspect basically does not feel much, but the multi-core part has a 15% performance improvement, after all, there are two more cores.
The newly released 16-core i7-12800HX has been tested in China first
Earlier on the Chinese Zhihu website, a user of the Golden Pig upgrade package shared the first actual test of Intel’s 12th generation notebook processor HX55. The tested model was i7-12800HX, paired with RTX 3070 Ti independent graphics. i7-12800HX has 16 cores (8P+8E), 24 threads, and the clock can reach up to 4.8GHz after overclocking.
For comparison, the Golden Pig upgrade package also uses an i7-12700H processor laptop that is also equipped with RTX 3070 Ti. He also mentioned that he also has an i9-12900HX laptop on hand, but the graphics card is an RTX 3080 Ti, so it cannot be compared. However, the running score data is still attached:
The i9-12900HX’s CINEBENCH R23 multi-core score was 23,013, while the single-core score was 1,927:

For the i7-12800HX vs i7-12700H part, the CPU benchmark test single-thread 12800HX does not have much improvement, only 0.59%, and the multi-thread has 15.28%. There is still a difference with 2 more cores (16 vs 14):

There are quite a lot of digital content creation test software, including Lightroom Classic, Photoshop, Premiere Pro, After Effects, and UL Procyon Photo. Most of the i7-12800HX is ahead, especially UL Procyon Photo editing, which has more than 1,000 points. However, the performance of the two processors of Lightroom Classic and Photoshop is about the same:
In PCMark 10, except for Essentials, where the two processors have almost the same scores, the i7-12800HX wins in the rest, with Productivity having the biggest difference:
Next is the graphics card game test that players are most concerned about. The 3DMark scores in each mode are similar:
The 1080P image quality settings of 18 games were tested and basically there was not much difference. The 3A game i7-12800HX was only 2.56% higher on average. However, this is just for playing games. If you also do other work at the same time, such as live broadcasting, recording, etc., the difference will be more obvious:
The power consumption test is not surprising. The i7-12700H is relatively low. The average power consumption of the i7-12800HX + RTX 3070 Ti is 68.269W:
Overall, the performance of the Alder Lake-HX series has been improved, but the magnitude does not seem to be very large. After all, the number of cores is not much greater, and neither is the clock speed. Therefore, it depends on how much the notebook sells after it is launched. Is it much different from the Alder Lake-H series? If so, the H series may be a better choice for people with limited budgets. Those who pursue ultimate performance will undoubtedly choose the HX series.
