Previously, OpenAI released Sora text-to-video modelIt was previously said that it would definitely launch this year, but in last month’s AMA on Reddit, it seemed there was no chance again, and it would have to wait until next year. The good news is that earlier, OpenAI suddenly announced a 12-day event with 12 livestreams, during which many new things will be unveiled. Some people speculate there’s a high probability that Sora will make its appearance.

OpenAI will host a 12-day live streaming event, unveiling several new offerings.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman confirmed at The New York Times DealBook conference on Wednesday morning an announcement of a 12-day event called shipmas, starting December 5, but he did not specify what would be launched.

OpenAI’s official X account also confirmed this event: not just 12 days, but 12 live streams. This means everyone should be able to watch the online broadcasts to learn what OpenAI is introducing. However, the official schedule has not been announced; those who want the latest updates can follow the official X account:

12 days.
12 livestreams.
A bunch of new things, big and small.

12 Days of OpenAI starts tomorrow.

However, foreign media have received word from insiders familiar with OpenAI’s plans, saying that at this event, OpenAI will officially launch the long-awaited Sora text-to-video tool, along with a new reasoning model.

The new reasoning model is probably the official version of o1. Previously, Sam Altman already said they would release the official version before the end of the year.

Speaking of which, a few weeks ago, because artists were dissatisfied with OpenAI,Video made with the Sora model leaked earlyFrom this, you can actually guess that the launch is not far off.

Artists accuse OpenAI of using their work for “unpaid research and promotion.” In 2024, hundreds of artists participated in the Alpha testing of Sora through an invitation-only research preview and used the technology to generate videos.

OpenAI has been very active recently, not only continuously enhancing ChatGPT, but this 12-day event should also bring plenty of exciting things, especially the one that was revealed in mid-last month —Operator“, an AI assistant that can primarily control computers—who knows, maybe OpenAI will reveal some of it during the event.

Currently it’s still unknown what Operator’s features will be like, but they may be similar to Claude AI’s version, which can help users perform computer tasks, such as writing code or booking travel.

Also, users discovered that,ChatGPT’s voice mode button icon has turned into a Christmas snowflake. As for me, currently not yet, but as Christmas gets closer, it might change:

A few days ago, Google beat Sora to the punch by launching its own AI video generation model, “Veo.” OpenAI should be feeling the pressure—if they keep dragging their feet like this, it might gradually reduce people’s expectations for Sora. However, “Veo” is still in private preview for now.

As for GPT-5, it’s been confirmed that it won’t happen this year; we’ll have to wait until next year.
