In the past two or three years when high-end graphics cards have become a deformed market phenomenon for air cards, many players who really want to play games but do not have a high budget are also faced with the situation of having no cards to buy. Of course, the global shortage of materials has led to abnormal production and supply, but virtual currency mining should still be the biggest reason why it is difficult to find a card. The previous generation of mainstream gaming graphics cards should be considered the 1660 and 1650 series. However, because their mining power is pretty good, even second-hand products are rare on the market, leaving the position of this NVIDIA mainstream graphics card vacant. The GeForce RTX 3050 released today can be said to be a product completely designed to meet the needs of this vast mainstream graphics card market.

The performance and positioning of this RTX 3050 are very clear. The PCB is small, so it can be planned as a dual-slot high-performance overclocking version. For example, today’s protagonist INNO3D’s RTX 3050 TWIN X2 OC should also see a low-profile version that does not require an external power supply in the future.

Better performance than the previous generation GTX1650

INNO3D’s RTX 3050 is the most mainstream of the entire 30-series graphics cards, and the core is the same second-generation RTX Ampere architecture as its big brother. It uses the third-generation Tensor core, the core code is GA106-150-A1, has 20 CUs, a total of 2560 CUDA cores, and uses GDDR6 VRAM with a VRAM size of 8GB. With a single 8PIN power supply, the TGP requirement is about 130W, and it has the advanced artificial intelligence function of ray tracing. The 3050 using the same core also has DLSS and Ray tracing technology. I think many players should already be familiar with RTX technology, so I won’t go into details here.

Last year, NVIDIA first provided a mobile version of the RTX 3050 on laptops. Because its performance and price are very suitable for the needs of most budget gamers, it allows the new generation of laptops to not only have usable gaming performance but also the opportunity to experience new technologies such as ray tracing on laptops. Therefore, everyone is looking forward to the desktop version of the graphics card.

Here I would like to briefly compare some of the differences between the RTX 3050 and the GTX 1650. The core clock speeds are not much different, but the 3050 using the 8mm process technology can stuff more transistors and make the number of CUDA cores almost twice as fast as the GTX 1650. The new light tracing and DLSS are also stronger than the GTX 1650.

 

Corresponding competitors

Starting from 2022, there will be a new battle in the mainstream graphics card market. Consumers should also be tired of the black and white situation of choosing one from the other. In addition to the possibility of directly competing with AMD’s RX 6500 XT, this RTX 3050 will also have the opportunity to compete with Intel ARC DG2 8GB.

The performance specifications of current mainstream graphics cards are still mainly to meet the resolution of 1080p. The FPS requirement is about 50-60 FPS. If it has light tracking, it will get extra points. Without light tracking, it is still acceptable to many people. The price will be a big consideration. So it remains to be seen who will be the king of this situation. It is expected to be seen in the second quarter. I personally have a lot of interest in the future of the graphics card market.

INNO3D RTX 3050 TWIN X2 OC

The INNO3D brand, as a very long-standing AIC close partner of NVIDIA, has a history of more than 20 years in the market. The Chinese company Yingduo Media Co., Ltd. has its own production and research and development capabilities, and also helps many brands with graphics card OEM. Currently, the main brand is INNO3D, and there are also ICHILL graphics cards and memory products.

INNO3D has two RTX 3050 products. This TWIN X2 OC represents the dual-fan overclocking version. The difference from TWIN X2 is that the factory default clock is increased to 1822MHz, and other hardware specifications are the same.

I’m not a professional miner, but I’m just digging for a souvenir. The measured computing power of a single card is only 12.395MH/s. I’ve seen similar computing power tests of RTX 3050 on different foreign platforms. It seems that NVIDIA has learned the lesson this time, and the LHR lock will be cracked immediately. I simply start with the hardware. The result is not that it won’t mine for you, but RTX. 3050 mining is a virtue. You can mine whatever you want. I think this is a good idea for real gamers, because this card can run games and the price is reasonable. Miners will not like it. I hope it can be supplied to gamers who need it.

As for the power consumption, measured by Furmark, the maximum moment is only 113W, and then it will be adjusted in real time according to the load. The GPU temperature is about 80 degrees at the highest. When fully turned on, the INNO3D TWIN X2 fan is very powerful, and the air flow is very strong, and the things around it are heated up.

The dawn of mainstream gaming graphics cards

The main purpose of deliberately testing some old games is to know how much difference it has with the previous 1660 Super. In fact, the performance does perform better when RTX is OFF, but it is not exaggerated. The main performance is positioned below RTX 3060.

To put it simply, this RTX 3050 is a ticket to RTX ON. It mainly supports 1080p resolution and can basically run games smoothly at 50-60FPS. This is also in line with mainstream computer specifications and budget considerations. The next focus is whether you can successfully buy the card? Is there no need to match the host package? I think these retail decisions will significantly determine the future of this card, and I hope the graphics card market returns to normal soon.

The price of INNO3D’s RTX 3050 TWIN X2 OC version has not yet been released, but the price of similar models from other brands should be around NT$10,000. Ever since I bought the 1660 Super for an extra NT$6,000 a long time ago, the price of graphics cards has skyrocketed, and I no longer dare to touch graphics cards.
