Everyone is familiar with the scam method of pretending to be the FBI on social platforms, but now hackers are targeting the “real FBI” email server and sending thousands of fake warnings, which say that the recipient has become the victim of a complex chain attack. Although the email address is real this time, the warning is fake. Don’t be fooled easily.

The FBI’s email system was hacked and false warnings were issued in its name
by foreign media BleepingComputer According to reports, the attack was discovered by The Spamhaus Project, a non-profit organization that targets spam. Vinny Troia, a notorious hacker group, was behind the attack. In fact, Toria is a well-known network security researcher who runs two dark web network security companies, NightLion and Shadowbyte.
These emails look like this:
Sending IP: 153.31.119.142 (https://t.co/En06mMbR88)
From: eims@ic.fbi.gov

As reported, hackers are trying to use the legitimate address “eims@ic.fbi.gov” stolen from the ARIN database to send letters to more than 100,000 email addresses. On the surface, these letters appear to be flawless and legitimate, even the IP is “153.31.119.142” from the FBI, and security researchers have proven that the email header is also verified by the Gmail system to be DKIM certified from the FBI server. The FBI responded to this incident in an official press release, stating that this situation will continue for some time and that the affected server hardware has been taken offline for processing. There is no further information to share.

If you receive this kind of letter from the FBI, don’t panic too much. Just ignore it. After all, if you haven’t done anything nefarious, you don’t have to worry about the FBI targeting you. Just like on social platforms, don’t believe that the FBI will be short of money to buy a plane ticket to reunite with you. Protecting yourself is the priority.
