The trend of short videos has been sweeping for a long time. Although Google has been slow to catch up, it has no plans to let go of this trend. It has previously launched a short video test function through its own audio and video social platform YouTube. Recently, it has chosen to upgrade the original 15-second short video to the industry standard (?) maximum length of 60 seconds. Then the highlight comes, this feature is finally open for beta testing in Taiwan! At least, the YouTube in my hands has already opened the option (Ya). For YouTube community operators, there is now an additional way to quickly attract fans: YouTube Shorts.
This function is basically similar to the form of limited-time dynamic short videos such as TikTok, but YouTube can also add the audio of other YouTube videos to Shorts (including Shorts, you can turn off excerpt sharing permissions), allowing people to quickly remix videos and other creative applications. Through the shooting and editing interface, you can easily add text, clips and filters from the gallery, as well as speed adjustment and other functions. They are all provided with usable shooting tools to keep the creation of YouTube Shorts simple and fun.

In the future, YouTube Shorts will add a dedicated page in supported regions, which can use vertical sliding to provide the experience of browsing three videos in a row (straight videos take up less space). Although the viewing experience in this aspect is still being adjusted, shooting is very simple. Just press the “+” on the homepage on your mobile device to select “Create Short (Beta version)” to start shooting.

Oh, by the way, YouTube also mentioned that not only long-form videos can be monetized. Even new Shorts are poised to provide mechanisms for earning money. However, planning in this area is still in progress (it is still a beta version after all), but during this period, a fund to reward Shorts creators has been launched, with a total amount of up to 100 million US dollars. I believe that it can attract many creators who are considering running it well, or who have even successfully managed short video and audio-type videos to join.
