Although due to fragmentation for a long time, the general public does not have high expectations for continuous Android system updates – although it has improved in recent years! However, Android Jelly Bean (4.1 ~ 4.3.1), which has been around for nearly 10 years, has continued to serve for a long time. It seems that it cannot be said that Google does not have the sincerity to take care of old users. However, as the number of users gradually decreased, Jelly Bean finally announced that it would stop supporting Google Play services after Ice Cream Sandwich, which was officially retired. Some old products cannot fix the holes and have to buy new ones.). Following the 2018 Android 4 Ice Cream Sandwich RetiredLater, its next version, Android Jelly Bean, was confirmed to officially end update support for Google Play services in August this year. If nothing unexpected happens, it will stop at version 21.30.99 and announce its official retirement.

Interestingly, compared to the 0.5% usage rate when ICS was retired, it was officially announced that Jelly Bean’s usage rate in July 2021 was as high as (?) 1%. I wonder if anyone still has a mobile phone running the Jelly Bean system? Is it Nexus 4 / 7 / 10 or whichever phone you prefer? Although it’s a bit sentimental, maybe it’s time to open it up and do another wave of updates to miss the experience of the old phone.
