At WWDC 2021 held early this morning, Apple released a version of “watchOS 8” for the Apple Watch-specific operating system, mainly to enhance “health” related functions and provide a better experience when using Apple Watch.

“watchOS 8” reveals more details to strengthen the connection between health and iOS 15 smart technologies
In the current version of “watchOS 7”, more “health” functions have been enhanced. For example, the “Sleep App” can set the work time, and can use the built-in accelerometer to detect subtle movements during breathing to determine whether you are sleeping or awake. The “Sleep Tracking Function” also has a “Hand Washing” function that automatically detects the start of hand washing in conjunction with epidemic prevention.

In the photo section, “watchOS 8” can not only customize the surface of your favorite photos, but also send photos as messages and emails in a simpler way; and the new tool of “Messages” allows users to use “write”, dictation and emoticons in one message at the same time. The dictation message can also edit the text content displayed. Users can easily add more expressions to their messages by selecting from hundreds of popular GIFs by simply entering a word or phrase.

In the health section, the original “Breathing” App will be strengthened and changed to a “Mindfulness” App, which is divided into two parts: meditation and breathing. Breathing while focusing can enhance positive emotions and overall mental health; the “Physical Training” App will add “Tai Chi” and “Pilates”; the “Fitness” App will add guest coaches, etc.; the “Sleep” App will allow you to view more health indicators through the Health App.

In addition, Apple Watch is a part of the Apple ecosystem, and some new functions can also be paired with Apple Watch. For example, Apple “Wallet” has added the ability to store keys in “Wallet”, so that users can use iPhone or Apple Watch to unlock their homes, offices, and even hotel rooms. It also allows users to connect more camera devices in the “Home” app and confirm the status through Apple Watch.

The new “Find Object” app on Apple Watch can help users use the “Find” network to locate tagged items, and the new “Find Device” app can help users locate lost Apple devices logged in with the same Apple ID.

“watchOS 8” must be used with iPhone 6s or later models running iOS 14 or above, and with any of the following Apple Watch models: Apple Watch Series 3, Apple Watch Series 4, Apple Watch Series 5, Apple Watch SE, Apple Watch Series 6.
