Many people now use NotebookLM when organizing information, reading papers, and reading long documents. The original summary, audio, and video functions are already very powerful, but Google obviously wants to make it more relevant to modern people’s viewing habits. Earlier, Google announced again that NotebookLM has launched a new feature that can generate TikTok-style AI “short videos”. It will automatically generate a straight AI short video of about 60 seconds based on the data uploaded to the notebook by the user, turning complex content into short video highlights that are easier to absorb quickly.

Earlier, NotebookLM announced on the community the launch of a new “Short Video Overviews” short video summary function:

It can be clearly seen from the video that the newly added Short Video Overviews can be thought of as a short video version of the NotebookLM video summary function. Put documents, web pages, PDFs or other data sources into the notebook, and NotebookLM will automatically generate a 60-second straight video based on the content of these sources, which contains AI-generated visuals and narration, allowing you to grasp the general key points of a piece of data in a shorter time.
The Google display example is the famous “Emu War” in Australian history. The video does not simply throw text summaries on the screen, but is paired with AI pictures in the style of paper sculptures and paper-cuts, and narration is used to explain the context of the event.
The operation part is the same as generating a video summary before. After entering the notebook, select the video summary in the studio column on the right, and you will see the new Short (short video), then select the topic you want NotebookLM to focus on, or you can enter the topic yourself, and finally click Generate.
However, it should be noted that although Google said it has been launched to Google AI Ultra and Pro subscribers, Google’s official Help document clearly states that Short Video Overviews currently only supports English, which means that even if you have a Pro or Ultra subscription, there is currently no way to generate short videos in Chinese.

This also means that it is still limited to English at this stage, and will be open to free users in the future. We still have to wait for the Chinese part, but I guess it shouldn’t take too long. We will continue to follow up and report any new news immediately.
