Google Voice was born more than 15 years ago. It has gradually developed from a call forwarding and text messaging service in the United States into a communication platform covering millions of enterprise users. Now it has received its biggest upgrade: Gemini AI has officially entered the phone conversation, automatically completing key summaries and recordings while you are talking on the phone, and Google has also launched an independent solution for personal studios and micro-enterprises without binding Workspace, which greatly lowers the threshold for use. Google Voice Product Management Director Mark Ewing announced on the official blog that this feature called “Take notes for me” has been a favorite tool for Google Meet users, and now it has been officially extended to voice calls, allowing users to fully grasp the key points of each call while driving, moving, or with their hands busy.
AI helps you listen to calls: start taking notes with one click during the call
The actual operation is very intuitive. While the call is in progress, just click the “Notes” button, and the system will start recording and transcribing in real time. To ensure transparency and informed consent, all participants will hear a voice prompt during the call: “This call is being recorded and recorded by AI.”
After you hang up the call, Gemini automatically generates a structured summary of key discussion points and follow-up action items, as well as a full transcript and audio file, which appear in the Google Voice app. Users will also receive an email with a link to the note to ensure that information is not missed.
In terms of privacy, Google emphasizes that notes, recordings, and transcribed content are only visible to users who enable the feature. If multiple participants on the same call activate “Take notes for me”, each person will only get their own copy, and there will be no cross-sharing. This feature currently only supports English and is available to Voice Standard and Premier subscribers.
Independent plan debuts: you can use it with Gmail, no need to bind Workspace
In the past, if you wanted to use the advanced features of Google Voice, you had to bind a Workspace subscription, which was a high barrier to entry for many personal studios or part-time entrepreneurs. Google has made major adjustments this time, separating the Voice Starter and Standard plans. Anyone with a Gmail account can subscribe directly without purchasing the Workspace package.
The Voice Starter plan provides basic functions of unlimited calls and text messages, and is suitable for individual users who only need a simple phone system. The Standard plan further unlocks advanced tools, including enterprise-level functions such as AI note-taking, automatic voice transcription, and multi-level automatic voice response (IVR). These standalone plans are currently only available in the United States, with more countries to follow.
To celebrate this revision, Google has launched a limited-time promotion: the Voice Standard standalone plan is 50% off for the first six months, and the monthly fee is reduced from the original $20 to $10 (approximately NT$320). This price includes full access to the “Take notes for me” AI note-taking function. For real estate agents, consultants, and freelance workers who need to handle a large number of calls every day, it is equivalent to getting a professional-grade phone management system at half the price.
But it is a pity that the newly launched Voice Starter/Standard standalone plan(No need to bind Workspace) Currently it is USA only, and currently only supports English.
