YouTube underwent significant changes last year, and it doesn’t look like it will be slowing down anytime soon. In the future, users will have access to more powerful advanced search tools to help them find exactly what they’re looking for. One of the biggest changes is the ability to filter by content type, and Shorts will be included in this feature.

Although you may not need it, YouTube offers search filters to help you find specific content. Previously, the available content types included videos, channels, playlists, and movies. Given YouTube’s aggressive promotion of Shorts over the past few years, it was only a matter of time before they were added to the filter list. The only surprise is that it took this long for the change to happen.
Another change you may notice is that the “Sort” section has been renamed “Priority,” and the options in this section have been streamlined—in the future, there will be only two options: sort by relevance or popularity. Previously, you could sort by relevance, upload date, number of views, and rating.YouTube mentionedThe “Views” option will be replaced by “Popularity.” It’s unclear whether other options will return, but with Google, anything is possible.
That said, YouTube has also emphasized that some features will be removed in the latest update. As mentioned earlier, upload date, sorting, and “Last Hour” are no longer available as options. For most people, these changes won’t be very noticeable, but if you’re someone who delves into search settings on a daily basis, it might take a little time to adjust.
Generally speaking, it should offer more streamlined search options, simplify and reorganize the filter menu to make it more intuitive, and improve the overall search experience. This includes removing some options that weren’t working as intended and were causing user complaints. It will make it easier for you to find exactly what you’re looking for. These changes should be rolled out to everyone—including both the web version and the app—but if you haven’t seen them yet, please be patient.
