OpenAI continues to strengthen ChatGPT’s productivity capabilities and has recently officially launched the much-anticipated iCloud Mail and iCloud Calendar integrations. Through these two new plug-ins, users can directly search emails, view schedules, create events, and manage daily workflows in ChatGPT, further making AI a personal digital assistant.

Through these two new plugins, users can directly query emails, view schedules, create events, and manage daily workflows in ChatGPT, further turning AI into a personal digital assistant.
This integration will gradually roll out to all ChatGPT users, including those on the free plan. The features will be available through the web version, desktop app, and iOS devices such as iPhone and iPad.

For users who frequently rely on the Apple ecosystem, this update brings considerable practical convenience. For example, when you are about to attend a meeting but have forgotten the location, time, or related details, you only need to ask ChatGPT a question, and the system can automatically search relevant email content while cross-checking existing calendar arrangements to confirm whether there is a scheduling conflict. If schedules overlap, ChatGPT can even help reschedule, reducing the hassle of manual searching and arranging.
In addition to basic email search, the iCloud Mail plugin also supports advanced use cases. Users can quickly look up email correspondence history with specific contacts, organize recent email conversations, and even draft and send emails directly through ChatGPT. This means users no longer need to frequently switch between different apps and can complete most communication tasks within a single interface.
When it comes to calendars, ChatGPT can not only help look up existing events, but also create new events, modify the details of existing schedules, and search for contact information. When email and calendar data are integrated, AI can more accurately understand users’ schedules and provide more contextualized suggestions and reminders.
To enable this feature, users first need to go to ChatGPT’s settings page, find iCloud Mail and iCloud Calendar in the “Plugins” menu, and complete the connection setup for each. Because this involves access to personal data, Apple requires users to create an app-specific password to improve security. The setup process is also quite simple. Users can sign in to the Apple account management page and go to the “App-Specific Passwords” option under “Sign-In and Security” to create a new password. However, before creating one, the Apple account must first enable two-factor authentication in order to use this feature.
After obtaining the app-specific password, return to ChatGPT to complete verification. It is worth noting that the iCloud Mail plugin only accepts email accounts ending in @icloud.com, @me.com, or @mac.com, while the iCloud Calendar plugin uses the email address associated with the primary Apple ID, and the two may not be the same. During setup, you must enter the app-specific password you just generated, not the password you normally use to sign in to your Apple account.
However, this integration feature still has some limitations at present. The most important point is that ChatGPT can only access content stored in the iCloud Mail system. Even if users manage Gmail, Outlook, or other third-party email accounts at the same time in the Apple Mail app, ChatGPT cannot directly read the contents of those emails unless authorization and connection for the corresponding service are completed separately.
