Years ago, some people would like to use X-rays of the internal structure of the iPhone as tablecloths. However, when you open the current iPhone, you cannot actually clearly see the chip and various parts. If you want to present this perspective of peeking into the inside of the phone, there is a very crazy designer Basic Apple Guy who started this creation during the iPhone 12 series. He later also drew exclusive see-through tablecloth pictures for the iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro series, as well as last year’s iPhone 15 Pro.
This year, he spent hundreds of hours of hard work, during which he was seriously ill and suspended production, and finally rushed out the latest iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max tablecloths.
In order to recreate the internal details of iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone Pro Max, Basic Apple Guy used more than 4,200 hand-drawn parts to make these see-through tablecloths extremely detailed. The creative process began after the iPhone 16 Pro was released in late September. He referred to early disassembly videos and Apple’s repair guide photos to gradually reproduce these precise internal structures. On October 7, he referred to iFixit’s high-resolution photos for final detail adjustments.
This time, Basic Apple Guy made two important choices in design style. First, he continued the design style of the iPhone 14 Pro see-through tablecloth and incorporated the exposed motherboard into the design. In fact, the motherboard inside the iPhone is covered by layers of other parts, but he wanted to be able to show off its details.
Another design choice is how the rear camera is presented. In recent years, Apple has made changes to the structure of the iPhone, adding a metal plate under the cover glass to facilitate screen replacement. If a tablecloth is made according to this design, all the user will see is this metal plate. So Basic Apple Guy designed the tablecloth to look like the view with the back cover removed, while flipping and arranging the camera module, flash, and LiDAR elements to achieve the effect of the actual internal structure.
During the entire design process, he hand-drawn 1,955 iPhone 16 Pro components and 2,328 iPhone 16 Pro Max components in Sketch. These richly layered components make up his most ambitious tablecloth series to date. Finally, he used Pixelmator Pro’s multi-layer output program to give components such as the battery, front camera, and logic board more shadows, graininess, and color, making the picture clearer and more dynamic in color.
