Not surprisingly, consumer products have begun to see price increases. PlayStation After continuing to increase,NintendoI can’t hold it any longer and recently announced a comprehensive increase. Nintendo Switch The price of the series means that not only the latest generation Switch 2, but also the original generation has also increased in price. Not only that, even peripheral gadgets such as the Nintendo Switch Online (NSO) subscription service and playing cards and flower cards are no exception. They have also increased in price, and the impact can be said to cover almost all of Nintendo’s current products.

Therefore, if you are interested in buying, it is recommended to take advantage of these few months. Taiwan has confirmed that it will follow suit in the future.

Switch 2 is priced at 10,000 yen in Japan and $50 in the United States. Taiwan is confirmed to follow up in September but the amount has not yet been announced.

Let’s look at the console part first. The Japanese domestic version of Switch 2 has seen the biggest increase this time. It has been raised from the original 49,980 yen to 59,980 yen, which is equivalent to an increase of 10,000 yen and an increase of about 20%.

It should be noted that this is the “Japan-only version”, and the price of the “multi-language version” on My Nintendo Store remains unchanged, because this version was already more expensive. Japan will adjust on 5/25, only about half a month left.

The three regions of the United States, Canada, and Europe have confirmed the unified adjustment on 9/1, which is slightly milder than Japan. The new and old selling prices of Switch 2 consoles in each country are compared in the following table:

area original price new price Increase Effective date
Japan (Japanese version) 49,980 yen 59,980 yen +10,000 yen (approximately +20%) 2026/5/25
USA $449.99 $499.99 +$50 (approximately +11%) 2026/9/1
Canada 629.99 Canadian dollars CAD 679.99 +50 CAD (approximately +8%) 2026/9/1
Europe (My Nintendo Store) €469.99 €499.99 + 30 euros (approx. +6%) 2026/9/1
Taiwan Starting from NT$ 14,380 To be announced To be announced From September 2026

In Taiwan, Nintendo also issued an announcement on its official website: “Nintendo Switch 2 is scheduled to change its recommended selling price starting in September 2026. Details of the change date and latest recommended selling price will be announced in the future.” The representative said that prices in Taiwan will also increase in September, and the actual date and the extent of the adjustment are not yet known.

The current price of Switch 2 in Taiwan starts at 14,380 yuan. Taking into account the 6%–20% increase in other regions, the new recommended selling price is estimated to be in the 15,000–17,000 yuan range.

In addition to the Switch 2, the original Nintendo Switch console has also increased its price in Japan, and the increase is even more exaggerated than the Switch 2. The OLED model has increased by 26%, the regular model has increased by 33%, and the Lite model has increased by 36%.

Switch generation price comparison in Japan (the effective date is still 5/25):

Model original price new price Increase
Switch(OLED) 37,980 yen 47,980 yen +10,000 yen (approximately +26%)
Switch 32,978 yen 43,980 yen +Approximately 11,000 yen (approximately +33%)
Switch Lite 21,978 yen 29,980 yen +8,002 yen (approximately +36%)

It is worth noting that Nintendo also mentioned in the announcement that “price adjustments for Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch will also be implemented in some other regions.” This means that the first-generation Switch in Taiwan and some countries may also increase in the future.

The NSO part of the subscription service was also raised first in Japan. Nintendo’s statement is that “based on the premise of providing common services globally, the service price balance between regions will be adjusted.” This means that each region will follow up in batches, and South Korea has confirmed that it will adjust.

NSO Japanese price comparison (effective date 2026/7/1):

plan original price new price Increase
NSO Personal 1 month 306 yen 400 yen +31%
NSO Individual 3 months 815 yen 1,000 yen +23%
NSO Individual 12 months 2,400 yen 3,000 yen +25%
NSO Family 12 months 4,500 yen 5,800 yen +29%
NSO + Expansion Pack Personal 12 months 4,900 yen 5,900 yen +20%
NSO + Expansion Pack Family 12 months 8,900 yen 9,900 yen +11%

The NSO 12-month household plan saw the biggest increase this time, rising from 4,500 yen to 5,800 yen, an increase of 29%, which is equivalent to an extra 1,300 yen spent a year.

In addition, playing cards, flower cards, and cards (Character models such as Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Kirby, and Splash) in the Japanese market have all been changed to open prices. The original fixed recommended selling prices of 660 to 2,750 yen have been cancelled, and the prices have been set by the channels themselves. The effective date is also 5/25.

As for why Nintendo has risen so sharply this time?

Although the latest financial report released by Nintendo on 5/8 is very good. As of the end of March 2026, the global cumulative sales of Switch 2 have reached 19.86 million units. However, it has lowered its sales forecast for the next fiscal year and mentioned that “increasing memory costs” and “changes in the market environment” will suppress the pace of shipments.

Therefore, the fundamental reason is that AI and memory are skyrocketing.
