Google search discovery will bring user-defined filters, is this a new feature inspired by generative AI?

Google has been making a lot of moves recently with its search function. Not only is this the “first step” for many people to search for information, but it also imports their latest Gemini generative AI quick switching function. Even helpAI speaking practice function for English learningIt can also be integrated into such an experience.

But now it seems that Google plans to bring more professional functions even to its original “search” function. Foreign media discovered that a new search function called “Custom Filters” has been added.

Foreign media 9to5Google recently discovered that when using Google search, a new feature prompt for custom filters will pop up on the discovery page.

When expanded, this feature actually looks a bit like the custom filters feature we introduced a long time ago that you can use in Gmail (see more:Gmail reports “not spam” but still ends up in spam? This article teaches you how to stop it from going crazy). You can customize filtering/filtering conditions through each field to quickly find the search results you need most – the important thing is that this function can be saved as a Template, which is a customized default option.

So basically, if you often select “Tools” on the search bar when searching on Google to search for language, time, etc., or even go to “Advanced Search” to make a series of settings (or more advanced, directly use commands such as site:[domain]), this new function will satisfy the pursuit of efficiency.

That is to say, we can also notice from the settings listed by foreign media that although there were settings such as “file type” in the past advanced search. But compared to previous file categories such as PDF, Google Earth, Microsoft Excel, etc. The new-generation custom filter function that supports saving default types also includes Ebooks, etc., and you can also specify to search online forums such as Reddit, resource pages related to coding programs, etc.

According to actual testing by foreign media, the search default templates saved by this new feature can not only be named, but also be logged into the same Google account page across the desktop and mobile versions.

This kind of user experience is not the same as the so-called “memory function” now added to ChatGPT. However, it can enhance the efficiency of search usage through more customized filtering, and directly remember the experience in the service. It can also deeply feel that Google has been inspired by the pressure of the rise of generative AI, and then strengthened the development direction of its own functions.
