along with Google AI services are getting increasingly powerful (e.g.,Gemini、NotebookLM, Nano Banana, Veo 3, etc.), many people are surely considering whether to upgrade to the paid version. However, Google AI Pro costs NT$650 per month, and not everyone has that budget. To let more people experience the appeal of Google AI tools, earlier this month Google quietly launched a low-cost Google AI Plus plan in Indonesia at only US$5 per month, much cheaper than Pro. Recently, Google announced further expansion to more than 40 countries. Although Taiwan is still not included, given that Google expanded to so many countries at once, there should be a chance in the future.

Only $5 per month! Google’s cheapest AI plan, “Google AI Plus,” is now available in over 40 countries.
Google AI Plus’s price suddenly dropped to $5. Many people might think that many of the paid features would still be unusable, but that’s actually not the case at all. Almost all features are available—it’s just that the quota is a bit smaller.
According to Google, compared to the free version, Google AI Plus offers the following additional features:
- Get a higher Gemini 2.5 Pro quota (with increased Nano Banana generation limits too)
- Deep Research can use the Gemini 2.5 Pro model.
- Limited Veo 3 Fast video generation
- Whisk, Flow get more Veo 3 video generation credits (200 AI points per month)
- NotebookLM has more complete features, including more audio summaries, notebooks, and more.
- You can use Gemini in services like Gmail, Docs, Vids, and more.
- 200GB of storage, shareable with up to five family members

Recently, Google announced that Google AI Plus has launched in more countries, including Cambodia, Indonesia, Kenya, Laos, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, and over 40 other countries. As can be seen from the list, these are mostly lower-income countries.
Although Google hasn’t mentioned whether Taiwan or other countries will also get this plan, I personally think the chances are pretty good. Right now you can clearly see that all the major AI services are starting to fight for users. After the most expensive plans at hundreds of dollars per month (such as Google AI Ultra, ChatGPT Pro, etc.), they’ve now shifted to targeting the low-price market—even OpenAI has ChatGPT Go.

Having a low-cost subscription option is really great, especially for those who already subscribe to many AI services, as it lets them save more budget while still getting access to all the well-known AI tools.
But then again, for basic purposes, honestly, the free version of Google AI is actually quite generous—you can use almost all the tools without too many restrictions, just with a smaller quota.
