For entry-level gamers, the AMD Radeon RX 6500 XT is priced at only about 5,000 yuan, which is very cheap, so you may consider buying this one. Please give up this idea, because you have better options. The latest actual testing by foreign media shows that the RX 6500 XT’s performance is very poor, and the title even directly states that this is one of the worst graphics cards they have ever tested.

Foreign media: RX 6500 XT is one of the worst GPUs ever made, skip it if you are considering it

Recently, foreign media TechSpot published the latest test report of AMD Radeon RX 6500 XT. In fact, this graphics card has not received very good reviews since its launch. We also reported when it first went on sale.RX 6500XT officially goes on sale, but media reviews are very subtle”, and after reading TechSpot’s latest test data, in this era when graphics cards are easy to buy, RX 6500 XT is definitely the least worthy of consideration.

Although AMD Radeon RX 6500 XT supports PCIe 4, it only has x4 channels, which is only half that of RX 6600, and the memory is only 4GB, so the specifications are really entry-level. The testing platforms used by TechSpot are as follows:

  • Ryzen 7 7800X3D Processor
  • 32GB DDR5-6000 CL30 memory

The compared graphics cards all use PCIe 3.0. Only RX 6500 XT will test 3.0 and 4.0. A total of 13 games were tested. Here are 3 cited for your reference.

The first is the game “Remnant 2”. Using the lowest image quality setting, you can clearly see that the performance of the RX 6500 XT is very poor. Even using PCIe 4, the measured average FPS is 44, which is still lower than some old PCIe 3.0 graphics cards, such as: GTX 1650 Super (47 FPS), RX 5500 XT (48FPS). The RX 6500 XT uses PCIe 3.0 and is even worse, with an average of less than 30FPS. The RX 6600 is up to 80% faster than it. The cost is only 65% higher based on the recommended selling price:

The same goes for “The Last of Us Part 1”. Using the 1080p lowest quality setting test, the RX 6500 XT cannot reach more than 60FPS, which is much faster than the GTX 1650 Super and RX 5500 XT. The RX 6600 performs better, almost twice as fast as the RX 6500 XT:

The lowest quality of “Evil Castle 4” 1080p is still acceptable. The RX 6500 XT’s score is equivalent to the GTX 1650 Super, but still loses to the RX 5500 XT. The RX 6600 is still much ahead, reaching 122%:

The figure below is the average of 13 games. The RX 6500 XT is 49FPS in PCIe 4.0 and only 42FPS in PCIe 3.0, both well below 60FPS. By comparison, the RX 5500 XT averaged 57FPS, and even the Intel Arc A580 averaged 64FPS:

Calculating the cost per FPS based on the current selling price, the RX 6500 XT can be said to be quite expensive. Even though it only costs US$140 now, PCIe 4 costs US$2.85 per FPS, while the RX 6600, which sells for US$190, only costs US$2.06 per FPS:

Even without looking at the CP value, the RX 6500 XT is not suitable for playing modern games. 12 3A games are set at the lowest quality of 1080p. Only 3 games on PCIe 4.0 reach an average of 60FPS, and only 2 games on PCIe 3.0 are left.

So, please skip this when buying a graphics card.
