NotebookLM’s Video Overviews video summary featureAlthough it was officially launched as early as the end of July, it only supported generating English videos at the time—no matter what language you input, the output was always in English, so it wasn’t really usable for Chinese users. The good news is that recently, Google The official blog has officially announced that the “Video Summary” feature now supports more languages, including Traditional Chinese. This means you can now turn content into a Chinese video with someone explaining it, helping you absorb it more easily. I tested it, and the results were quite good.

NotebookLM’s Video Overviews video summary feature finally supports Chinese now.

Google announced in an article that NotebookLM is getting two major updates: “Video summaries now support 80 languages globally” and “Significantly upgraded all audio summaries.”

at Google’s support pageYou can check which languages are available, including Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese. I tested it and it’s indeed already supported.

For those who don’t know what the video summary feature is, here’s a quick introduction.

NotebookLM’s Audio Overviews voice summary feature has already made learning easier. However, for certain content, audio-only explanations may not be enough, and that’s where Video Overviews, the video summary feature, can fill the gap.

“Video Summary” is a tool that converts complex content you input into an easy-to-understand video. In simple terms, it uses AI to automatically organize the key points from notes or documents and presents them in a visual and conversational way. You can think of it as someone condensing a thick stack of materials into a simple, easy-to-understand video for you.

Through this video, you can quickly grasp the key points, and even understand the content from different perspectives.

More importantly, the voice-over in the video works just like an audio summary—two hosts converse and use a narrative approach to tie the content together, making it easy for viewers to understand the full sequence of events and the relevant perspectives.

The way to use it is also simple. In your NotebookLM notes, you can see the video summary in the studio on the right side; click it to start generating. Depending on the length of your content, it will take anywhere from a few minutes to tens of minutes to generate:

Once complete, a video will appear below:

Then you can watch:

Like audio summaries, video summaries also let you customize the “areas the AI host should focus on,” and now you can also adjust the language right here. You can generate multiple video summaries based on different focus areas, with no limit to just one:

As for the part about “greatly upgrading all audio summaries,” it refers to supporting voice summaries in over 80 languages, evolving from short to full versions, providing the same depth, structure, and nuance as English voice summaries.

Compared to previous versions, you’ll hear more complete and coherent content discussions, as well as ideas that synthesize and connect multiple sources. For notebooks that have already generated audio summaries, you can try regenerating them.
