This week, Winamp sent out aofficial news, detailing that there are now over 17,000 artists on the Creators platform. The platform primarily wants to be something like Patreon, where fans can support creators and subscribe to each other’s music, so creators have full control over the distribution and monetization of their work. Of course, the majority of these tracks come from Jamondo, another platform owned by its parent company, but overall the strategy appears to be moving in the right direction.
According to Winamp, the platform hopes to have nearly 100,000 artists by the end of 2024. In the short term, however, it will still be releasing their NFT capabilities over the next two months and eventually rolling out the mobile version of Winamp to the public. According to official sources, the final mobile version of Winamp Player is planned to be launched before the end of 2023. Unfortunately, it’s not entirely certain how many features will be available initially. We don’t know if it will allow playback of native multimedia files in addition to creator streaming, NFT integration, or other features.
Either way, if you’re looking for a bit of nostalgia, a beta version of Winamp Mobile is currently available on iOS and Android, with a full version awaiting news of an official launch.
