Mark Gurman, a senior reporter at Bloomberg, has made another prediction. There is more to say about the specifications of Apple’s next-generation M series processors. Everyone thinks that the M3 series is very strong, but how strong is it? He believes there will be at least one chip with 12 CPU cores, 18 GPU cores and 36GB of memory. Although this model has not yet been officially announced, it is already considered to be the final specifications of the M3 Pro.

Apple has been very serious about updating its M series processors recently. From M1 to M2, everything seems to be on track. I believe the M3 series will also come out soon. Currently, Mark Gurman mentioned in his report that Apple is beginning to test the compatibility of the M3 series chips with Mac software. And Apple has no reason to hide the new chips of the M series, because Apple needs a new publicity point at this time to give its next-generation Macbook series a better stage to perform.
Apple M3 Pro has a more advanced manufacturing process and more processors
It is understood that sales of Apple’s Mac series products are declining, even down by as much as 31% compared to the previous quarter. This means that the appeal of new products is moving away from mainstream users. Generally speaking, when encountering this situation, it is best to launch a new, more attractive and improved product, or to upgrade the hardware to a new generation of specifications in one go, in order to keep users coming back.
So can Apple M3 make users pay for it? Judging from the currently known specifications, it seems promising. The test processors currently known for the 12-core CPU and 18-core GPU are believed to be M3 or M3 Pro. If true, then the new Mac may bring you a little surprise.

Looking back at the previous generation of M2 Pro, we can see that it has 10 processor cores and 16 GPU cores. The core configuration can be changed according to the needs of different models, and can be configured with up to 12 CPU cores and 19-core GPUs. If the M3 Pro comes with 12 CPUs and 18 GPUs, and can add more cores, it can be expected that the next generation of products will at least have a stronger heart.
In terms of manufacturing process, it is currently believed that the M3 series will still be manufactured by TSMC, and the manufacturing process will adopt a more advanced 3nm process. As for the processor core, it is currently speculated that the 6+6 mode will be used, with 6 high-performance cores paired with 6 energy-saving cores. However, this part is more difficult to predict and is purely derived from the previous generation product planning.

Based on this basis, M3 Max may further add 14 CPU cores and 40 GPU cores. The M3 Ultra has double that, with 28 CPU cores and 80 GPU cores. With TSMC’s 3nm process, the core area may be further reduced.
As for the time to market, Mark Gurman believes that it will be released between the end of this year and the beginning of next year. He also believes that although Apple is still developing the M2 Macbook Air 15 this year, the development of the M3 must have started long ago. Perhaps iMac, Macbook Pro and Macbook Air with built-in M3 chips are already available. Just waiting for the right time to publish.
