After downloading, open PolyPal and you’ll see this screen. Click the box in the bottom right corner to register for a membership. You can register using your Google, Apple, email, or Wechat account. Just choose the one you normally use. After successful registration, you’ll get 30 minutes of free real-time translation service for simultaneous interpretation and live translation. (Reminder: PolyPal is a Chinese translation app. If you’re concerned about that, you can choose other translation software we’ve introduced before.)
After successful registration, we can start experiencing PolyPal’s real-time translation service. Let’s first introduce the page. On the homepage, you can choose two of PolyPal’s most distinctive translation services: simultaneous interpretation and live translation. Simultaneous interpretation is suitable for business people who interact with foreign clients or students studying abroad. If you’re worried that clients or professors speak too fast, you can use simultaneous interpretation to translate live conversations in real time. Live translation can be used for real-time translation of videos and livestreams. If you usually follow celebrities and watch idol livestreams, you can use PolyPal’s live translation service.
Simultaneous interpretation lets you translate immediately while the other person is speaking. Note that the upper half of the screen shows the language you hear, while the lower half shows the translated language. For example, if you want to translate from Japanese to Chinese, select Japanese in the upper half and Chinese in the lower half. Be careful with this when setting it up.
Live translation is used for real-time translation of videos and live streams. Here’s how to use it: open the live translation option and select the language you want to translate into. After selecting the language, tap the “Play” button below, then click “Start Live” when it appears. Next, jump to the live broadcast or video screen you want to translate. For example, when watching an Apple keynote, select English on the left and Chinese on the right. Tap the play button to jump to YouTube, and you can watch the video with subtitles at the same time.
Of course, PolyPal also provides the simplest text and image translation features. Tap the option in the middle at the bottom of the page to jump to the text translation section. Then simply select the language you want to translate.
PolyPal is actually pretty good to use, especially if you’re into following celebrities—with PolyPal, you can instantly understand what your idols are saying.
