Web browsing is probably the most common activity when people use the internet. Besides users’ own security awareness, browsers are constantly improving their protective measures. Google Chrome has introduced AI technology into its existing “Enhanced Protection” to provide real-time protection against dangerous websites, downloads, and extensions, and it is now rolling out to the public.

Google Chrome’s AI safety features have been rolled out to the public.

AI is not only reflected in common Q&A conversations, image or article generation, and entertainment, but also in productivity, where many practical applications can be seen. Of course, more vendors are integrating AI into various platforms, including the browser you use every day, and this application goes beyond just asking and answering, extending into the realm of security protection.

According to Bleeping Computer’s reportNetizen Leopeva64 posted on X that after three months of testing on the Canary platform, the AI-powered real-time protection capability has now been released on the stable channel. The Safe Browsing feature has been around for a long time; now, simply switch the protection level to “Enhanced Protection” to use the latest AI technology.

Google has also rolled out the change to the “Safe browsing” feature that I spotted a few months ago, so now the “Enhanced protection” mode is also powered by AI in the Stable version of Chrome:https://t.co/Lm7i0PZcFg

Previously, Google described using “active protection” to safeguard users from malicious or suspicious websites. Now that it has been integrated with AI, it’s unclear how this differs from the old version, but Google may be using AI to understand how websites operate in real time and alert users to potentially harmful sites—even ones Google hasn’t previously discovered.

According to Google, AI protection will also deeply scan suspicious downloads that users initiate after clicking, but it also noted that when you actively choose to use enhanced protection, browsing data will be sent to and shared with Google as a basis for future AI training or for optimizing and improving features.
