This year, Intel vowed to make progress in the field of display chips. In the second quarter, it announced that it would launch the Intel Arc Alchemist series of GPUs. Although some models of this series of products have entered the notebook market, there are very few products that use its GPUs and have been officially launched. Therefore, the GPU that Intel has devoted all its efforts to build has not yet been able to stir up more waves. However, I believe that the subsequent launch of the independent graphics version will make these GPUs more visible. In order to further promote the upcoming independent graphics series, Intel chose to announce the test results of Arc A750 at this time. Judging from the official data, Arc A750 seems to be able to outperform the stable voltage RTX 3060 in school, which is quite noteworthy.

It is not that Intel did not have its own GPU in the past. Many desktop computers still use Intel’s internal graphics (iGPU). If the internal graphics are included, Intel has a considerable share of the display chip market. But this alone is not enough. While Intel is launching the next generation of display chips, it also expressed its ambition to enter the independent graphics market. The new Intel Arc series may become a challenger to the two major forces of AN, or it may take advantage of the rising and falling cryptocurrency prices to join this mining carnival and make a fortune.
The Intel Arc Alchemist series is currently mainly based on internal graphics. For independent graphics, China’s Lanji has launched entry-level graphics cards with Arc A380 chips. There are no official agents selling it here in Taiwan, so the impression I have of this graphics card is the same as Intel’s impression of publishing paper data to promote the strength of its own graphics card. “I heard” it is very powerful, but how it works is a good question. However, since there are manufacturers willing to do it, Taiwan’s first- and second-tier graphics card manufacturers may start to move in the near future.
Going back to the scores of Arc A750, now that Intel has announced the results, it will not just make one or two games. The briefing showed that Intel was testing five games including “F1 2021”, “Cyber 2077”, “Control”, “Borderline 3” and “Fortress Heroes”. The control group chose the RTX 3060 graphics card, and the test environment claimed to be set to 1440p for testing. Among the five games, “F1 2021” performed the most eye-catchingly, 17% faster than the control group.
However, the Arc A750 is not yet on the market, and the driver used must be an internal version. It may be questioned that the driver is specially optimized for running scores, which may not mean that it has the same performance in actual games. But even taking into account the perfection of the driver, the theoretical performance gap will not be too far off. Therefore, the author believes that the test results are somewhat of a reference. But this is just Intel’s opinion.
In the past, Intel academician Tom Petersen mentioned the development of Arc graphics driver in an interview. He said that the current focus will be on recent popular games, applications and APIs (such as DX12, Vulkan). Only after these are taken care of can we have enough time to optimize games or applications with older APIs. Considering that Intel Arc wants to create competitiveness in the shortest possible time, the driver’s goal of focusing on new games and new APIs is very reasonable. But this also means that Intel will need to spend a lot of time to bring the driver level to the same level as the two AN companies.

Back to independent graphics, currently only the ACM-G11 GPU, the GPU used as the A380 graphics card, is on the market. Intel will aim to have graphics cards launched by partners using A750 chips available before the end of summer. Specs for the Arc A750 graphics card include a stripped-down ACM-G10 GPU with 384 EUs, 3072 ALUs and 12 GB of GDDR6 display memory, running on a 192-bit bus at 16 Gbps and a TGP of approximately 200W.

The graphics card will be powered by an 8+6 plug, which means the maximum power consumption of the card is expected to be 300W. If you want to choose the specifications of the power supply, you may need to have a rating of 400~450 W or more. If the performance is as official as the RTX 3060, maybe the Arc A750 graphics card only needs to be priced a little sweeter, setting it at less than $350, which may make players flock to it.
