Overtake ChatGPT? Apple’s dramatically evolved ‘LLM Siri’ reportedly to debut in 2026.
Looking at the official Apple Intelligence introduction page, the section on the AI voice assistant says “Opening a new era for Siri,” which seems to hint that Apple has more evolutionary plans in store for this voice assistant service.
Bloomberg has revealed that Apple is likely to launch the latest “LLM Siri” with significantly upgraded conversational capabilities in 2026.
Setting aside this slightly awkward name (the voice command had literally just dropped “Hey” XD), LLM Siri’s evolution direction, as it currently appears, seems to be about continuing to keep up with the current phase—including the advanced voice conversations that started with OpenAI GPT-4o and the voice features of Google Gemini Live.
According to foreign media reports, this more conversational LLM-powered Siri will also continue to strengthen and expand the advantages of App Intents integration, a feature already central to the current Apple Intelligence experience, which enables interaction with and operation of both first-party and third-party apps.
Foreign media reports claim Apple is expected to unveil this evolution plan in 2025 (likely WWDC 2025?). As for when users will actually receive the official update, that’s estimated to be spring 2026.
It looks like next year will probably follow the same pattern as this year, gradually pushing out AI-related feature updates via point releases like “0.1”? And if we estimate based on that cadence, the more “conversational” LLM Siri should have to wait until iOS 19.3 before it’s rolled out?
Of course, there’s still a lot of uncertainty about all of this, especially since this feature is still just at the rumor stage. Actual information may not be confirmed until at least WWDC.
After all, if we have to wait for Siri to gradually become stable with features including user-specific dynamic information, cross-app operations, and even multilingual support, it may really be until around next year’s WWDC before we have a conclusion.
But we should probably be able to tell whether future Apple Intelligence features will get synchronized updates for Chinese support — it’s probably unlikely.
Although people may think that Apple, already somewhat late in the generative AI race, still doesn’t appear to have a very aggressive competitive strategy if it only delivers a voice assistant capable of more coherent voice chat by 2026, foreign media note that Apple should still focus on assisting with daily functions and maximizing the advantage of completing AI tasks quickly and privately on-device.
That said, it’s hard to say whether these key points can overtake ChatGPT. Personally, I’m curious about the “LLM” version of Siri—how much RAM would it need to run locally? I just hope iPhone 15 Pro and above can still support it directly (hands clasped).
