AI Renamed to SI! Trump Executive Order Calls for a “Proper Name”; Musk Responds with SpaceXAI, Tesla Follows Suit with a Sign Change

Inaugurating The Era Of Super IntelligenceIt requires administrative departments to fully switch from “Artificial Intelligence (AI)” to “Super Intelligence (SI, superintelligence)” in official documents, websites, and reports, and explicitly stipulates that all agencies “no longer recognize” the term AI in any applicable context. Within ten days, the word AI was downgraded in official US discourse to an outdated term “no longer recognized.” Elon Musk’s companies immediately followed suit with a chain of renamings: on October 4, he announced that SpaceXAI would be renamed SpaceXSI; in the early hours of October 9, Tesla’s official X account was found to have been renamed “Tesla Super Intelligence” (@TeslaSI).

First, understand the executive order itself: one, it only governs the federal government; private companies, other branches of government, and the general public are not subject to it; two, existing regulations, contracts, grants, and historical documents do not need to be rewritten retroactively; three, “Super Intelligence” currently has the same legal definition as AI in the existing Code (15 U.S.C. §9401(3)), just under a different name; four, the White House technology adviser must propose a draft federal definition of “superintelligence” within 60 days, meaning the real answer will come by the end of November. The White House’s stated reason for the rename is in the fact sheet: “Super Intelligence conveys the true capabilities of these technologies, unleashing entirely new human creativity,” rather than merely imitating or automating human intelligence. In other words, this is a naming campaign, not technology regulation. Trump put it more plainly in his UN speech: the United States “completely rejects any attempt to construct a globalist scheme to control AI,” and the rename is also, to some extent, a statement about the international regulatory path; he also wants documents around the world to change accordingly.

Musk’s actions are the fastest and most honest. On October 4, he posted three lines in a row on X: “No more AI.” “SI.” “It’s better.” He also said, “SpaceX is a superintelligence company”; when a fan asked whether SpaceXAI would be renamed SpaceXSI, he replied, “Yes, we will make that change.”

No more AI SI It’s better

Tesla AI and SpaceXAI have not currently issued an official statement, but the X account has been renamed Tesla Super Intelligence (@TeslaSI) and SpaceX Super Intelligence(@SpaceXSI). But there is no timetable, no legal name explanation, and the official website has not been renamed either.

The renaming history of the SpaceXSI division is kind of interesting. It was originally xAI (the developer of the Grok chatbot, which is still built into the X platform to this day). In February 2026, it was absorbed by SpaceX, and only on July 6 did it change its name to SpaceXAI. Ninety days later, it was set to change again to SpaceXSI—three names in one year. Even foreign media headlines are mocking it: “This AI brand didn’t even last a single quarter.SpaceX itself listed on Nasdaq on June 12 (ticker: SPCX), raising $75 billion at a valuation of $1.77 trillion (about NT$2.4 trillion and NT$57.5 trillion); its AI division sits within the listed company structure, so a name change naturally affects investors.

Tesla AI (this account is not Tesla itself; it is Tesla’s AI division, working on FSD and robotics AI). In this case, the account made the change first and announced it later. In the early hours of October 9, Tesla observer Sawyer Merritt tweeted, “Tesla AI has officially been renamed to Tesla SI (Super Intelligence),” and tagged @TeslaSI. The attached image was a screenshot of the account page: display name “Tesla Super Intelligence,” handle @TeslaSI, gold business verification with the Tesla logo, 509.7K followers, and a registration date still May 2023, proving it was the same account renamed rather than a new account. The division behind this account oversees the Dojo supercomputer, the Optimus robot, and the neural network core of FSD; it is Tesla’s AI hub. The rename changed the public face, not the organizational structure.[11]But here’s the asterisk: Tesla did not issue a formal company announcement; some pages on its official website still say “Tesla AI”; Musk himself did not tweet to confirm a company-level name change. Strictly speaking, this is an “official account” rename, not an “officially announced” rename.

Actually, nothing has changed.

For developers and car owners, these renamings don’t change a single line of code: the operation of models, FSD, and Grok remains completely unchanged; the terminology appears only in official documents, the official website, and external communications. Your Tesla won’t gain a feature just because a department is renamed SI; the in-car interface and update cadence stay the same. This is a purely branding exercise. The awkwardness falls on academia: “superintelligence” has long had a precise definition in AI research, referring to systems that comprehensively surpass human intelligence in most domains (superintelligence), much narrower than “artificial intelligence”; now the U.S. government is calling the entire field of artificial intelligence “superintelligence,” erasing with administrative force the terminological boundary researchers have relied on for years. Until the White House tech advisers’ definition draft comes out at the end of November, the abbreviation SI will simultaneously mean “AI as the government says it” and “beyond human intelligence as academia says it”—one term carrying two meanings. Don’t forget that in the same period the White House also established a “Super Intelligence Force” to coordinate federal AI work; the institution-building is real, not just a renaming order. Before the definition draft is released at the end of November, rather than agonizing over how to translate the abbreviation, it’s better to watch closely how that document draws the boundary: it determines whether “superintelligence” is a pure renaming or the opening move in future legislation packaging new regulation. The name itself is worthless; the definition is what’s valuable.
