Apple today officially unveiled the all-new Apple Watch Ultra 4, a next-generation smartwatch designed for extreme sports and outdoor adventure enthusiasts. The new device features an upgraded health sensing system and the S11 chip, delivering more accurate heart rate monitoring, deeper health insights, and significantly improved battery life.

The all-new S11 chip not only supports the health sensing system, but also delivers the computing power for the upcoming Audio Intelligence feature. With Apple Intelligence technology, users can capture key points from important conversations, recognize environmental sounds, and receive smarter assistance tailored to their personal context—all while maintaining privacy, security, and accessibility. The Apple Watch Ultra 4 with watchOS 27 further integrates Siri AI powered by Apple Intelligence, allowing Siri to understand personal context, access more knowledge, and provide a more natural and intelligent interaction experience.
The Apple Watch Ultra 4 features a redesigned health sensing system that integrates new optical and electrode sensors for continuous, high-precision health monitoring all day. The new optical heart rate sensor measures heart rate every 5 seconds, greatly improving data density and monitoring accuracy. Additionally, HRV measurement frequency is now up to 24 times higher than before, and users can view recovery HRV and overall HRV metrics through the new Heart Rate App, making it easier to monitor stress, recovery, and overall health.
Apple Watch Ultra 4 debuts a “Readiness” feature that provides a daily score from 0 to 10 based on recent exercise volume, training load, physiological metrics, and sleep quality. It then offers recommendations such as “Recover,” “Pace yourself,” “Ready,” or “Go all out,” allowing users to plan their work and training more scientifically.
The redesigned iPhone Health app will deliver more personalized health analysis through Apple Intelligence. The new “Healthspan” page analyzes long-term health trends, while the “Health Age” feature evaluates the difference between users’ physiological metrics and their chronological age, offering a more intuitive health reference. Additionally, the app will introduce mobility testing capabilities to help assess flexibility, balance, and muscle strength performance.
Apple Watch Ultra 4 adds several new audio intelligence features, including:
- Sound recognition can detect important sounds such as alarms, doorbells, and baby cries.
- Live Rewind allows you to quickly review conversation content you just missed.
- Siri Recap automatically organizes conversation highlights and summaries.
- Shazam music recognition instantly displays the song name and artist information.
Apple stated that all audio intelligence features are designed with privacy at the core, and do not create or store recording data. All related computations are completed through on-device secure mechanisms.
watchOS 27 also adds several new features, including:

The Apple Watch Ultra 4 delivers up to 50 hours of battery life under typical usage, extending to 84 hours in Low Power Mode. Charging speeds have also been improved, with just a 15-minute charge providing up to 18 hours of use. For outdoor athletes, the new Extended Workout Mode offers up to 25 hours of continuous GPS and heart rate tracking, while the Maximum Extended Workout Mode supports up to 45 hours of running, hiking, and long-distance trail activities—enough to complete an ultramarathon of approximately 160 kilometers.
Apple Watch Ultra 4 is available in two versions: natural titanium and black titanium. Pre-orders open today, with official launch on September 18. The U.S. suggested retail price starts at $799.
