With the addition of computer apps including “Math Memo” and even “Conversion” functions that can calculate exchange rates and units, they are being pushed across Apple systems. Apple is bringing back an old computer feature that many people use in the latest iOS beta!

At last year’s WWDC conference, iPadOS had built-in computer app functionality for the first time 14 years after its release. Although Apple was a bit self-deprecating about this late-arrival feature at the press conference, it quickly came up with a feature that can support handwritten calculations and directly provide answers. It can even get real-time updates of calculation results based on other calculations added later. It can be regarded as bringing an additional surprise of integrating machine learning to iPadOS 18.

However, with the addition of computer apps including “Math Memo” and even “Conversion” functions that can calculate exchange rates and units, Apple has launched them throughout the system. Some people have also discovered that computer apps after iOS 18 actually lack many intuitive and fast functions built into computers.

To be honest, although I seemed to have noticed when I was calculating money for traveling abroad a while ago, there was no response when I repeatedly clicked “=” – I thought it was a bug. But I actually found out that this feature had really been removed after reading the reports (and the complaints from users?).

Simply put, this function is a convenient function that can repeat the calculation of the last input item when you perform calculations through the computer app. For example, after you enter 1+2 and press “=” to calculate, if you press “=” again, the last calculated input will continue to be repeated for the result, that is, “+2” will continue.

This feature is a very intuitive operation for many people who have used computers. So when it was suddenly removed in iOS 18, the dissatisfaction caused can be imagined – especially since the original manufacturer did not explain why it was removed.

Now it seems that Apple will bring back this feature in iOS 18.3. Because in this latest Beta 2 test version, this continuous calculation function has been added back compared to the previous Beta 1.

It must be said that if you really use the built-in computer app of iOS and are very unhappy that Apple has removed the continuous calculation function, and you can’t find a better and more convenient alternative app. Maybe you can consider choosing to join the beta update test program in “Settings” > “General” > “Software Update”.

I would also like to remind everyone that whether you are installing a test version or performing a system update to the official version, it is recommended to back up your device first to avoid the regret of encountering problems during the update and data that cannot be recovered.
