OpenAI has finally started revealing details about its next-generation model, GPT-5. Besides confirming it’s going to be incredibly powerful, they’ve also unexpectedly teased that “ChatGPT free users will get unlimited access to GPT-5,” meaning there are no restrictions at all—use as much as you want. This is honestly the first time OpenAI has been this generous. Should we really thank DeepSeek for this? Of course, just like the current o3-mini, GPT-5 will also come in tiers, so paid subscribers will get access to a more intelligent version of GPT-5.
Additionally, GPT-4.5 will also be launched in a few weeks.

OpenAI confirms ChatGPT’s free tier will get unlimited GPT-5 access, with GPT-4.5 arriving in a few weeks.
Earlier, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman shared a roadmap for GPT-4.5 and GPT-5 on the X social platform. In it, he mentioned that OpenAI has realized the current model selection and product variety have become too complex. They want AI to work seamlessly, not like now, where users have to choose a model before using it. So in the future, they will integrate AI, and this will happen with GPT-5.

However, before GPT-5 arrives, there will be a GPT-4.5, internally codenamed Orion, which will also be OpenAI’s last model that is not a “Chain-of-Thought” model.
OPENAI ROADMAP UPDATE FOR GPT-4.5 and GPT-5:
We want to do a better job of sharing our intended roadmap, and a much better job simplifying our product offerings.
We want AI to “just work” for you; we realize how complicated our model and product offerings have gotten.
We hate…

Although Sam Altman didn’t specify many details about GPT-4.5, Orion As early as last October, foreign media reported that its performance is expected to be 100 times more powerful than GPT-4.
For GPT-5, the plan is to unify the o-series and GPT-series models, with capabilities such as automatically adjusting reasoning time (knowing when to think longer and when to respond quickly), flexibly using all OpenAI tools, and adapting to a broader range of task needs. As a result, o3 will no longer be released as a standalone model.
The most important thing is that Sam Altman promised that ChatGPT free users can use GPT-5’s standard intelligence level unlimitedly, with no quantity limits, but if abuse is detected, some restrictions will still be imposed.
For ChatGPT Plus members, they will get a higher intelligence tier of GPT-5, and ChatGPT Pro seems to be even higher. So it’s now confirmed that GPT-5 will have three tiers: standard, higher intelligence, and even higher intelligence.
All the models mentioned above will support voice, interactive Canvas, search, deep research, and other features.
As for the release timing, GPT-4.5 is expected to debut in a few weeks, while GPT-5 will take a few months:

Even though Sam Altman has hinted that GPT-5 will be completely free to use, he didn’t emphasize that it would be that way from launch. So I think don’t get too excited—maybe it’ll have restrictions at first, then later become unlimited. After all, that’s how it’s always been.
Unless OpenAI’s hardware infrastructure is already able to serve all users by then, achieving this won’t be so easy.
