After many years, Android 13 seems to finally have “complete” support for exFAT

To be honest, many people may have to seriously think about whether they have encountered any problems or difficulties due to the file format of external storage devices when using Android. However, for mobile phones (especially Pixel) that completely run the native Android system, it seems that Microsoft’s exFAT format support has always been a bit “difficult”. The best thing is that Microsoft has directly opened support for the Linux kernel many years ago, but it is still like this. As for this somewhat complicated situation, it has been discovered by foreign media that it may have finally been solved silently in the latest version of the system update. After many years, Android 13 seems to finally have “complete” support for exFAT

If you think that the problem of not being able to handle a single file larger than 4GB, it almost never happens on smartphones. Then you should be The chosen one Quite lucky. It is possible that you are using a third-party brand that has long been compatible with Microsoft’s exFAT format, or that you have not yet encountered the opportunity to process such files on your mobile phone.

Because on the most native Google smartphone system, even in the relatively new Android 12 generation, there are still some problems with exFAT support. However, foreign media discovered that this may finally be solved perfectly in Android 13.

Perhaps many friends who know computer or technology-related information will have a question in their minds. It is obvious that around 2019, Microsoft has provided open source licensing to a certain extent, disclosed technical documents, and allowed exFAT support to be added to the Linux core. Even the Android Common Kernel of the Android 12 system has already provided such support in version 5.10. As a result, users of smartphones with native systems such as Pixel still cannot directly use the exFAT format?

Later I found out that the original problem was that several “helpers” of the volume daemon Vold, a service in charge of mounting the hard drive program, could not be properly detected by the mechanism. On Android 13, this small problem has finally been resolved. Since this seems more like a bug fix, there is speculation that Google may have the opportunity to correct this situation going forward – well… if such support is not regarded as a new feature of Android 13…

That is to say, regarding the discussion on Android’s support for exFAT format, information from quite a long time ago can actually be found on the Internet. Some sources also say that Android 11 is actually supported, but some Kernel porting projects still need to be done. Judging from the current status of the Android 13 beta version, Google should finally end this inconsistent system experience across brands.
