Although not all users have a need to use the secure connection function, it now seems that Microsoft also hopes to provide more secure related services and functions for Edge users.
According to a report by foreign media Neowin, Microsoft is currently testing a built-in network protection function called Secure Network for the Edge browser. This function has a shield added before the function name. You should be able to guess at the first time that it is not a function of scanning viruses or blocking malicious web pages, but a function option that protects network connections, right?
Although to put it bluntly, Microsoft, which cooperates with VPN service provider Cloudflare, is generally using their services behind the scenes. However, their services are also deeply integrated into the Edge browser. Not only can the connection be encrypted, but also the problem of online tracking can be avoided. It also offers features like hiding your IP address and actual location. In short, as long as this VPN function is activated, you can browse the web and use services with more confidence.
It is similar to iCloud Private Transfer, a paid subscription cloud service in the Apple ecosystem. Although one of the features of Secure Network network protection is that it is free to use. However, the VPN function integrated by Microsoft in Edge will actually provide a free usage limit of 1GB per month provided by Cloudflare – detailed usage can also be seen in the Secure Network function options.
The Microsoft Edge Secure Network feature is currently available in Preview for some users. Foreign media believe that after Microsoft completes the test, it should have the opportunity to officially launch such information security functions in the next few updates. If you want to check to see if you are eligible to be pushed to the preview, you can look in the menu in the upper right corner of the Edge browser to see if this feature appears – you are lucky to be able to start using it for free early!
The important thing to note is that this feature will require logging in to a Microsoft account to activate; Secure Network will also automatically close after closing the browser window – probably to help save traffic, right? If you want to confirm whether this feature is currently enabled, you can see a shield icon displayed on the Edge browser. As for the price and method of subscription that will be required after the traffic exceeds the standard, there is currently no relevant information. At least what is certain is that Microsoft guarantees that the relevant information collected by the VPN service will be permanently deleted every 25 hours – I believe people who will use this feature will be very concerned about this information, right?
