Google announced Android 12 on October 4 last year, more than half a year ago. Although Google has been committed to accelerating the promotion of operating system upgrades for various mobile phone brands in recent years, Google’s Andriod developers have stopped updating historical versions of the Android operating system since October 26, 2018. In the case of closure, the current proportion of each historical version of Android is unknown.

Recently, the foreign media Gizchina cited data released by the third-party application store platform Uptodown, providing the latest historical version proportion data of the Android operating system for reference. Here is a summary:

Google releases the latest Android operating system version in the third quarter of every year. The latest version is Android 12 released on October 4, 2021.

Since Google’s official Andriod developers have stopped updating historical versions of the Android operating system since October 26, 2018, the outside world is in a fog as to whether the fragmentation problem of the Google Android operating system has been improved. According to foreign mediaGizchina A report on April 12, 2022 reported that data from the third-party app store platform Uptodown pointed out that the adoption rate of the new version of Android 12 was only 2.6%, ranking fifth.

Uptodown, which has 130 million users worldwide, observed the survey statistics of the system versions installed by Android users on the platform. The current top five versions and usage shares are: Android 11 (29.5%), Android 10 (25.2%), Android 9 Pie (11.5%), Android 8 Oreo version (11%) and Android 12 (2.6%).

Although Google has continued to work hard to improve the problem of Android operating system version fragmentation in recent years, according to Uptodown data, although there has been progress compared to the past, compared with the version upgrade rate of the iOS system, the upgrade speed of the Android operating system still has a long way to go.
