Many people are particularly fond of the flagship mobile phones launched by Samsung. After all, Samsung is the big brother in the Android mobile phone circle and has deep involvement in panels and semiconductors. However, after the Galaxy S22 was recently caught in the speed-down incident, the company’s mobile phones have been caught in quite a negative storm. Korean media The Korea Times revealed that the current sales of the S22 series of mobile phones in South Korea continue to decline, which has become a serious problem that Samsung must face.

The Samsung speed-down scandal continues to rage in South Korea. Although officials show goodwill, it seems that consumers have not changed their minds yet.

Mobile phones are daily necessities for modern people. People who are discerning will directly consider the top mobile phone models from various manufacturers. Even people who are not so discerning will first take a look at the evaluation report of the mobile phone or the performance of the mobile phone under the benchmark software. The money you spend must meet your needs for mobile phone functions, appearance, texture, or other items to a certain extent before you can say that you have bought the right mobile phone.

Since it is foreseeable that consumers have such a mentality, major mobile phone manufacturers will naturally try their best to make their products perform satisfactorily under various harsh testing software. Therefore, there are endless incidents of cheating on benchmarking software, and one or two cases will break out every few years.

The Galaxy S22 series of phones that have recently been exposed for cheating areGenerally referred to as the “speed reduction gate” incident. The method to expose this mask is surprisingly simple. Just disguise Geekbench as a game app, and you can achieve completely different results than before.

Samsung’s explanation is that this is just because their built-in game acceleration service GOS will control the temperature and performance when the game is running. However, GOS is not included in the benchmark software for optimization. Therefore, the benchmark software runs with higher scores, but the benchmark software disguised as a game runs with low scores. This is normal.

Considering that SoC chips are no longer very hot these days, how to allow players to play for a long time without limiting the number of game frames due to temperature has always been the biggest headache for various manufacturers. Samsung has a mechanism like GOS. We cannot say that they are cheating, but it gives people a very bad impression. Therefore, after the incident broke out, Geekbench directly delists many Samsung mobile phones。

The slowdown scandal caused Geekbench to crack down on many Samsung phones and remove them from the database.

The Korean media The Korea Times focused on the local sales of the Galaxy S22 mobile phone in South Korea. They found that after the speed-down incident broke out, the phone’s sales numbers continued to decline. It is obvious that consumers are dissatisfied with Samsung’s practice of secretly limiting the speed of games and not allowing games to truly outperform the performance of flagship machines. Even though Samsung’s original intention of setting up GOS may be to improve players’ gaming experience, no one would be happy if they spent a lot of money to buy a speed-limited mobile phone.

Galaxy S22 sales performance in South Korea is poor due to slowdown

Samsung has now launched an update that allows users to disable GOS in an attempt to minimize the impact of negative image, but the effect is obviously limited. Korean distributors have also increased the subsidy for the machine, reportedly by up to 500,000 won. However, it seems that sales figures are still stagnant. Consumers obviously do not intend to listen to any defense from Samsung about the GOS service, even if the goal of the service is to extend the player’s battery life and battery life.

At present, it seems that what Samsung can do in South Korea may be to adopt more drastic price cuts or giveaways, and at the same time persuade consumers to accept that its GOS service actually has good intentions and can be disabled manually. But consumers must not be so easy to accept Samsung’s statement in a short period of time. However, judging from Apple’s class action lawsuit card for slowing down old iPhones, Samsung’s current experience may not be too miserable, and there is still a chance for a comeback.
