Although the cryptocurrency has shown signs of stabilizing recently and seems to be returning to an upward trend, perhaps many miners are no longer in a hurry. Not only are graphics cards starting to be sold, but also SSD solid-state drives. Many ultra-cheap SSDs have appeared on China’s second-hand platforms. A while ago, some netizens bought a second-hand CORSAIR Corsair that was advertised as “several months old” at an ultra-low price of 850 yuan (approximately NT$3,800). MP600 2TB, I originally thought it was a good deal, but I didn’t expect that after actual testing, I found that the health level of this one was only 0%.

Super cheap SSD appears on China’s second-hand platform, and netizens found out that it comes from the hard drive of a mining machine

As raw materials continue to rise, almost all products are now subject to price increases, and SSDs are no exception. There has been news that some NAND quotations have begun to rise. Therefore, those who have shortages, even scalpers, will definitely want to go to the second-hand market to buy them to see if they can get a bargain or make extra money.

And just like that, according to Chinese media reports, many ultra-low-priced SSD solid-state drives have appeared on China’s second-hand platforms. Just looking at the product introduction page, there is no problem at all, and it is not known that they were removed from the mining machine, so it is difficult for consumers to identify them.

A brave netizen once purchased two M.2 1TB and 2TB solid-state drives, as well as three small-capacity 2.5-inch SSDs. The total price was only 1,750 yuan, about NT$7,850. It was super cheap and felt like a profit no matter how you think about it. However, of course the opposite happened at the right time. This netizen complained about the most expensive CORSAIR MP600, which costs 850 yuan. 2TB, it was scrapped in less than a week, and all the data inside was lost:

On the CORSAIR MP600 2TB product introduction page, the seller claims that this MP600 has only been used for a few months, is in almost new condition, and has intact functions and no maintenance:

However, after using the hard drive detection software, he found that the write volume of this drive has reached 1402148GB, the read volume has reached 1300422GB, and the health level is only 0%. It is impossible for someone to write and read so frequently under normal use. It can be seen that this CORSAIR MP600 2TB solid state drive must come from a mining machine:

Another Philips 1TB m.2 solid-state drive, the seller also marked it as “normal use” for 3 months. It is almost brand new and has perfect functions and no maintenance:

After using the hard drive to check the software, although it is better than the previous one, the health level is only 62%. The writing volume reaches 662705GB and the reading volume reaches 723978GB. What kind of normal use can make the writing and reading figures reach such high numbers in 3 months? :

Chinese media also conducted follow-up reports through logistics information and undercover visits. According to the description, the seller doesn’t think his description is wrong. If he doesn’t buy a brand new one for more than 3,000 yuan, he will buy this ultra-cheap second-hand product instead. Isn’t everyone just looking for bargains? The seller even said that he also purchased the goods, so was he also cheated? :

After asking about the source of the SSD, sure enough, it came from Chia, which was very popular last year. When the Chia coin was first launched, it reached US$1,606, but now the price has dropped to US$69.6. I don’t know how many times it has been cut in half:

There are also so many ultra-low-priced SSD solid-state drives on the market, which also means that at this stage, SSDs in the second-hand market must be carefully selected (the same is true in Taiwan). Don’t just buy it if it is cheap. If it is bad, it may be like this netizen. An SSD that cost about NT$4,000 died in less than a week, and the money was completely wasted.
